Unfortunately the only real choice now is to shut off power or risk fires.

$150,000,000,000 his peak net worth (approx)

325,000,000 people in the US (approx)

$150,000,000,000/325,000,000 = ~$461 per person.

Would the country, or the world, be a better place if Amazon disappeared, but everyone in America got $461 in their hand? What would that accomplish?

You're under the impression that I take personal issue with Jeff Bezos and just want to spread his money around to everyone so they can buy a new games console or something.

The world would be a better place if billionaires didn't exist fundamentally, is my view. Here we are just hoping Bezos isn't totally evil. We're glad that bill Gates turned out alright.

But then what about all the other ones, who do the bad things? No person should have that level of financial power over so many people.

Reminder deupd, I am a dirty filthy commie.

Something people seem to forget when they make this "point" is that Amazon's facilities and resources wouldn't necessarily just disappear when Bezos' personal wealth is broken up. You don't have to sacrifice the warehouses, the technology, etc. So imagine if we were to redistribute Bezos' wealth and seize control of Amazon. Then former Amazon workers could self-determine their conditions of production and we could use that money for other purposes.

This will never happen, but worker control of Amazon would have extraordinary potential to benefit society.

What youre describing would be the end of Amazon.

I made this post in the other topic, but it is worth repeating:

Uh, this has to be one of the stupidest topics I've ever seen.

$5,000 / day * 365 days = $1,820,000

Investing that yearly sum into the enormous economic booms since 1492 would make you immeasurably richer than Jeff Bezos, especially when adjusting for inflation. No one with Bezos' wealth simply keeps their cash as cash. They invest it into things that grow in value.

Anyone making that kind of money in 1492 would've done the same and been far richer than Bezos. Learn to do some simple f***ing math.

I'm not really sure what point you are actually trying to make here. The analogy isn't a thought exercise to consider how a person who lives for 500 years might strategically accrue wealth. It is an absurd illustration designed to point out how vast the wealth divide is.

Wealth isnt a zero sum game. It can be created or destroyed. If the value of Amazon stock plummets today and Bezos loses 95% of his wealth, youre life isnt going to get any better. In fact, a lot of peoples lives would get worse.

Yeah when the panel is all non-regulars it isn't the same. When you have at least 3 regulars out of the group of Norton, Vos, Patrice, Giraldo, Di Paolo, Keith Robinson, it's usually hilarious. I remember guys like Kevin Hart, Bill Burr, Louis CK, Rogan, Bobby Kelly being good too. The one where Giraldo owns the hell out of Denis Leary is must watch stuff.

Giraldo killing Leary was amazing. I remember watching that as it aired and having to look away because of how hard he came at Leary. It was a sight to behold.

Really Giraldo was the best at all of that. Usually they defer to him for actual knowledge because they know that couldn't keep up with a lawyer. Patrice and sometimes Norton were the only two that could made coherent arguments.

And if you love all of those guys, you need to see the Roast of Patrice O'Neal on YouTube. For anyone that hasn't seen it, Ben Bailey (yes from Cash Cab) absolutely murders everyone with no remorse. Poor Keith Robinson.

Leary wanted them to edit that out. He got fucking murdered.

The funniest part of all this, as someone who follows the comedy scene, is that they could have cherry picked way more offensive stuff from Shane to attack him for. What they got him for was fairly mild. It really calls to question what, if anything, does as due diligence for their new hires.

He really is a funny dude and he will land on his feet just fine. All the comedians who matter are behind him. I first heard him maybe a year ago and he has been on a big rise since he hit the New York comedy and podcast scene.

Me too. Im a big fan of a lot of the pods that hes been a guest on in the last year or so and hes a killer.

I don't listen to his podcast but he's a must listen when he's on The Bonfire, Legion of Skanks, Real Ass Podcast, Robert Kelly, etc.

One of the pet peeves of this whole situation is that the people complaining are hardly comedy fans. If you watch SNL regularly, I don't want to know you. That's some beginner level horse****. I'm not saying that everything he says is gold, but you'd give him more of a benefit of the doubt if you knew what he was about the rest of the time.

You and I listen to the same pods. Ive never actually listened to him on the secret pod, but I do listen to everything on Gas Digital. Youre probably the only person in this topic who understands the context of my defense of Shane. Everyone else sees it as some left wing vs. right wing bullshit, and not just a fan of good comedy.
