The trillions of dollars it costs

Not sure I follow. Every ship in Star Wars has a hyperdrive, even single-manned ones like X-Wings. The Last Jedi basically demonstrated that any ship traveling in hyperdrive retains its physical properties, which means that an X-Wing is a 10,000 pound mass traveling at 186,000 miles per second (if not faster). All you need is one to down the Death Star.

Agreed. That scene was the only one that drew a gasp from my theater, but man, at what cost to the logic of the Star Wars universe. Seriously, every downed X-Wing in ANH should have just hyper-kamikaze'd into the Death Star. All they needed was one!

Man, it's gonna be such a messy post when I finally have the time to projectile vomit my thoughts here.

I will say one thing right now: if Mark Hamill doesn't get an Academy Award nod, I'll be fucking done. Star Wars is the furthest thing from Oscar bait, but the man reprised a character not seen in 35 years - the character that typecasted him - and crushed it harder than I think anyone anticipated.

The animals were cute and I thought the humor was mostly on-point (Mark Hamill fucking murdered his lines, funny ones especially). I think there were some times where they stretched too far with the jokes, like when Kylo/Rey were having a dramatic Force meeting, and she's all "ummm can you put a shirt on please." Scenes like that are probably a good time to put the gags on hold.

Overall, my thoughts are still really scrambled and I left the theater an hour ago. I went into TFA with really low expectations because of the Prequels. Once it surpassed them, I raised expectations for this film, and I can't help but feel disappointed. I've got two years to take the stick out my ass, but I'm just not feeling that excited for EpIX.

Oh yeah, I didn't get Holdo's plotline either. I thought she was going to turn out to be a spy for the First Order or something, but nope. She was just a regular ol' Rebel hero.

I think she was there to help evolve Poe from gung-ho space ace to a more mature leader, and also to help give weight to her awesome suicide scene. I'm not sure if those things justified an extra 15 minutes of screen time, but whatev.

It's no worse than Leia consoling Luke about Obi-Wan who he knew for like a day after she lost her home planet.

Another fair point (I've never even thought about that), but I think it's more permissible in ANH because we had never seen, heard of, known anything about, or cared for Alderaan or its people. The ensemble cast was the main story. Chewie and Han are huge parts of that ensemble cast, and when the fandom has cared about and loved their friendship since 1977, it just makes sense to focus on the grief of one if you're gonna kill off the other.

the fact that Chewie got a direct hit on a guy who was able to hold a blaster shot in midair for minutes compensates for thatbest moment of the entire movie

A fair point. Enraged Chewie did WORK.

But I think they could have played on that ten minutes later and show his rage lead to grief. Instead, they used it as another opportunity to make Rey the center of everyone's universe.

I think the reason that comparatively little focus was given to other characters (and their emotions) is one of the reasons I actually... can't believe I'm gonna say this... felt much more of an emotional punch from ROTS than I did from anything in TFA, including Han's final scene. I'm actually not sure which of those two movies I prefer now - probably TFA, but it's a LOT closer than it was two years ago.

I rewatched TFA last night. Good movie, but yeah, I feel the two main criticisms (the fact that it's "safe" and that Rey is too perfect) have legs to stand on. I give the film originality points for Finn's character and story - I think it's the first time we ever see a bad guy defect.

Rey is far too big a Mary Sue, though, and I noticed that more this time around. She saves Finn multiple times, shows up Han Solo in his own ship, and learns Force Persuade and Force Kinesis ON HER OWN... like three hours after discovering that the Jedi and Luke Skywalker aren't a fairy tale. By my recollection, the only time she was aided away from danger was when she first met Finn; he heard the buzzing of a TIE fighter and directed her to run, and even then, she escaped unscathed while he got his ass knocked out lol.

Contrast that to Luke in ANH, who needed everyone's help - from Obi-Wan, to Han, to Leia, to the droids, to Wedge - in order to succeed. ANH's cast was truly a team, which is why they were all so memorable. TFA has no team; it's "Rey Saves the Day" for two hours. Perfect characters belong in video games (Link says heeeeey), not as much in movies.

That said, the only scene I found actually insulting was the cool-down after Han's death, where Leia chose to mourn her husband with a girl she's known for one day and not his BEST FRIEND FOR THE PAST 40 YEARS. Thank you for making a structured Star Wars film, J.J. Abrams, but screw you for doing Chewie like that.

I'm spending Christmas with my in-laws in Seattle. That entire part of the family (my brother in-law, his brother, his aunt, and his parents who are hosting us all) are great appreciators of whisky, especially scotch. Rather than rack my brain trying to get dinky gifts for everyone, I'd rather just bring one nice bottle for the family that we can all share during that weekend.

Blue Label is my backup plan (I've never tried it), but they know way more about this stuff than me, and I think they'd appreciate something a little more adventurous and less marketed. Also, not too peaty.

My budget is around $150. I'd appreciate any and all recommendations, but distiller.com is recommending Bushmills 21 Year single malt. Has anyone tried it? Thank yinz!

Zelda is likely done

Sadly true. I was hoping Nintendo would try to capitalize on the huge (unexpected?) success of Switch/BotW by launching a straight sequel that reuses a lot of the assets (think Majora)... but if they spent almost a year creating DLC that many players seem to be criticizing for lack of content, I doubt they can "streamline" any Zelda game in the next three years.

As for buying and selling, I'm holding steady for now. As I understand, LTC is practically identical to BTC, the only difference being volume (there are 4x as many LTC as BTC). If that's truly the case, then LTC is still very undervalued relative to its bigger brother (a Bitcoin is 48x as valuable as a Litecoin). There's a lot of room for LTC to grow, but my question is... how much can they both grow together?

Also, every day I kick myself for not buying a Trezor last month when I first heard about them. They were $70 back then... $200 now.

Finished II and III

AOTC - As I briefly touched on earlier, the Anakin/Padme scenes are probably even worse this time around. It's not a surprise to anyone, as their dialogue in this movie is the stuff of legend. The film ends with another uninteresting, messy land battle, but at least it's better (or less worse) than the one that caps off PM. The Sith apprentice, Count Dooku, also says things, and despite Hayden Christensen's wooden deliver, at least Anakin and Obi-Wan have a more interesting relationship than the latter did with Qui-Gon. Obi really carried this movie, one that I now think is a good step ahead of PM.

ROTS - The best of the three. It's not a great movie by any means, but I actually felt some real emotion here. My gf and I both felt for Obi-Wan when he learned of Anakin's villainous turn. This movie also featured the best PT Anakin performance (a very low bar, but hey at least he's not horrible here) and the best action scenes. It's still stuffed with camp (I really need to look into "high ground" - it just CAN'T be as random as it seems... ok, it can and probably is), but I think the dialogue and delivery here is improved as a whole over the earlier films.

Overall, whereas I was unsure about 1 and 2 beforehand, I now think it's a clear case of 3 > 2 > 1. The first two are still bad, but ROTS pleasantly surprised me and crept into this "omg it might actually be good" territory. It's closer on the spectrum to TFA than it is to EpI/II.

I - 1/5 (irredeemably horrible)
II - 2/5
III - 3/5

To be perfectly clear, this isn't a question of whether you're shy or outgoing - I'm asking if you recharge your batteries by spending time with people or spending time alone.

If you frame the question that way, I figure most people in any community will answer "introvert." Time with people is more memorable and fun, but it's also more strenuous and can take a lot out of you. Time alone is generally seen as "recharge time" for pretty much anyone.

Almost certainly, which means that if Litecoin ever hits a crazy number like 10k, to maintain the current status quo, BitCoin would need to be at LEAST 40k (since there are 4x as many BitCoins as Litecoins), and probably much, much higher since Bit has been much more inherently valuable than Lite up until now. In such a scenario (Litecoin @ 10k), I'm guessing that BitCoin will have rocketed beyond 100k, and at that point, cryptocurrency would have become a very significant chunk of world's overall money.

Maybe I can see such a scenario one day, but not in the next year. Too bullish for me.

I can see it going up to $1,000, which would make the total value (market cap) of Litecoin about a fifth of where BitCoin is now. However, if it were $10,000, it would have more than double BitCoin's total market cap.

Can you explain this whole "wallet" concept? All I have to cash out right now is a paypal account, which I link to my bank (because I'm not linking my bank info to coinbase, especially considering they want the online login credentials, so fuck that).

I'm very much a noob to this, but from what I've read, a physical wallet is currently the only "hack-proof" way to store your crypto. Digital wallets can be hacked, and large exchanges like Coinbase have been hit before. Basically, if you're not trusting enough to keep your coins on these exchanges, you can transfer them to your wallets and transfer them back in when you want to sell.

EDIT: Also, one of the most identifiable ways I've seen the bitcoin explosion has been with the price of a digital wallet. When I first bought coin about five weeks ago, a Trezor (I believe it's the most popular) was $70 on Amazon. I checked yesterday and it was $170. woops lol
