I'm sure they would. Polearms and axes would typically see more use (in warfare) during the middle ages than swords, which were more of a sidearm and symbol of status, or used in more 1 on 1 situations. In a battle, people would typically carry the biggest piece of fuck off they could find or afford, and reasonably swing.

I noticed when I changed his food last night that he didn't rush over to attack my hand. He was sleeping peacefully in the corner. I got a little concerned then, but there were other times when slept through that too. Then this morning he was gone.

If you noticed any signs of diarrhea in his cage or on his bum, he likely got sick. Hamsters, especially very young hamsters, are extremely vulnerable to diarrhea and typically pass away within a day or two of showing symptoms, even with treatment. If he smelled very bad that might also indicate illness. If you felt or noticed any lumps on him, he probably got cancer. Otherwise it was likely just heart failure due to age.

This is inaccurate. A 4 year old hamster is extremely old. A 5 year old hamster, while I believe is theoretically possible, is almost unheard of.

After around 18 months a hamster would be considered "old", and becomes more vulnerable to any kind of injury or illness. After that point it mostly depends on genetics and luck (though hamsters with poor genes or in poor care can obviously pass away earlier).

Most pet store hamsters (at least in North America) have extremely poor genes due to inbreeding. This has worsened over the course of the last few decades. It used to be more common to see hamsters live to three years or older, now it's probably the minority of hamsters.

The implication that they were burned alive offscreen and the manner in which their corpses are presented (without a lot of fanfare, compared to something like Shmi's death) definitely feels like something you wouldn't see in a post ANH Star Wars. Especially given that it was meant to evoke Vietnam memories.

As a kid I didn't even really get it, like I knew we saw their bodies and that they were dead, but I assumed they'd just been zapped by some kind of space weapon or something.

The issue I find is that at it's core, it's not merely that they don't function in society. It's that they want to actively reshape society. Elliot Rodger, shitlord-in-chief, wrote a detailed manifesto not merely outlining his own personal failings, but also detailing the kind of misogynist society he sought to help create. Many other mass murderers have similar documents outlining specific political goals.

These people see themselves as soldiers in a war.

A history of *documented* mental illness. Mentally healthy people don't go on murder sprees, regardless of how bad their day has been. Anyone that does such a thing is mentally ill, regardless of whether or not that's been formally diagnosed or otherwise recognized.

Radicalized people do this shit all the time. We don't traditionally treat it as mental illness and it's not classically defined as such.

I don't know if it's helpful or even accurate to begin looking at white supremacy or misogyny as mental health crises.

The tweet or whatever from the news station that was like "we have photos that prove the killer was previously a child" honestly felt more fucked to me than what the cop said. The cop could have misspoke (though thats seeming unlikely), the pictures of the killer as a child felt like a deliberate attempt to mitigate his behaviour with the weakest of emotional appeals.
