Expansion was not a component of Communist ideology post-Lenin. Russia acted in a manner to avoid direct conflict at all costs, mostly out of self interest, and sought to create a wall of buffer states between themselves and the West. The Nazi regime consistently glorified the idea of a conflict that was arguably unwinnable from the start. I don't think it's fair to completely divorce the ideologies from what actually occurred. I think of the two only one could be reasoned with (and eventually was). --- |

Hitler's warmongering and the extremely militaristic ideology of Nazism was devastating, and I would argue far more ill intentioned than almost anything done by Communist nations. We coexisted with Soviet Russia for nearly a century. We couldn't even make two decades with the Nazis. It would have been horrific if they'd been as long lasting as Soviet Russia or Red China. I think one of the most horrifying statistics I heard is that prisoners of war kept in the Communist gulags for decades had a better survival rate than the Russians who had been kept prisoner in Nazi camps for just a couple years. --- |

Meanwhile a free game such as FN can vary things up from week to week and none of it costs a dime. You could argue that Rocket League hasn't done a lot recently either but for many of us that was free as well. The thing about (most) games with an upfront cost is you pay to get the game as it exists. Blizzard actually doesn't care if you keep playing because they already made most of their money. It sounds like you dropped a bunch on a game without understanding what you were purchasing. I bought Overwatch with no expectation that it would be any different two years after purchase, because that's how 99% of $60 games work. --- |

Her bio implies that McCree was one of the founders of the Deadlock gang (along with possibly Bob?). Which I guess is fine? There's a bit of weirdness to McCree's backstory and him apparently being recruited into Overwatch at 17 but I guess this doesn't really change any of it. The white hair and red eyes is a bit...OC. I mean it looks good but there's no reason for it in her background, and she apparently looked like that as a child. Unless she's supposed to be albino. The Athena bot looked super lame. I hope that gets redesigned before becoming a hero. EDIT: Also as alluded to above, it's kind of weird how many of the additional heroes are female. I get that Overwatch launched with a surplus of guys though. --- |

Like you could at least add Saber (who admittedly was always one of my wish picks). She's an actual video game character, representing a so far unrepped genre, who has been around for over a decade and has had games on Nintendo consoles (in addition to being the mascot for a weeaboo phone game). Reimu Hakurei would be another great example of weeaboo game characters that aren't from fucking Granblue. A Granblue character just seems so weird to me that I almost can't believe it to be true, if it wasn't coming from Vergeben (who I previously doubted). Luffy was always my pick for "most likely weeab character to make it in". --- |

All that's needed to belong in Smash is to be some sort of iconic element of Nintendo's history. We can sit here and rank those characters and whatnot by how well they represent that history, but at the end of the day, that does nothing to make Smash a better game. Quite simply, the dev team had the idea of giving Piranha Plant a moveset that they thought would be fun. That's what makes Smash a better game. Complaining that the character they chose isn't high enough on that hierarchy is silly. Character history and context is an enormous part of why Smash is such a fun and successful game. That's why it gets so much attention. I know you've expressed the opinion before the SSB would be just as good if all the characters were wireframes, and I hope you know very few people would agree with that. --- |

I would say the difference there is that there is nothing to better represent Pokemon than the individual pokemon, except Pokemon trainer who is more difficult to incorporate. Pirahna Plant doesn't represent anything that ten other Mario characters don't already do better. He has an iconic appearance and nothing else. If they had added Slime as a Dragon Quest rep I would be more okay, because Smash is then expanding to a new series. As is they're just digging into that sweet Mario cash some more. Based on popularity alone, this game could easily be Super Mario Smash Bros and be just as big. But then it loses a lot of its unique identity. --- |
