"Brilliant!"

Seriously, they're taking all the Justice League shows (Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Young Justice) off Netflix while trying to promote their Justice League movie? WTF? Why? Have they lost their minds? Looks like they'd be paying Netflix extra to promote that shit right about now. I swear, it's like DC tries to be unsuccessful.

A magnetic alloy is a combination of various metals from the periodic table that contains at least one of the three main magnetic elements: iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), and cobalt (Co).
In Marvel continuity, Mjolnir is forged by Dwarven blacksmiths, and is composed of the fictional Asgardian metal uru.

I guess it depends what you think uru is made of or if it's an element?

Eh... this is a minor nitpick, but I wish they were at a Bowling Alley with an arcade instead of a stand alone "arcade." Sometimes the show is just the tiniest bit off with it's timing. I feel like a small town arcade in '84 is certainly possible, but the Bowling Alley arcade is just infinitely more likely. It's kind of like how some clearly late 80s stuff ended up in Mike's house during season one.

But I'm looking more forward to this show than anything else in the fall. I almost hate it being on Netflix because it's too good to binge. You have to let each episode sit awhile before you move on to the next one.

BTW, here's what I wrote Aug 4, 2016 in another forum...

Aug 2016
And here's the minor nitpick that REALLY irked me, lol. I'm not sure that many people owned VCRs in 1983. At one point they do a scan through Mike's living room and they've got like four of those video tape storage units stacked together. That's like at least 40 tapes. Mike's family seems pretty well off so I guess it's not unbelievable. But when even Will's dirt poor family starts talking about watching tapes it starts to push credibility.

OK, this is how much this irked me. I just went and looked up prices in the Sears 1983 Christmas catalog. A brand new, top-of-the-line TV was $800. That was the best of the best, with most other TVs in the 400 to $700 range. But Sears most expensive VCR (they only had 3 in the catalog) was $840! More expensive than their best TV! The other two prices were $480 (VHS) and $380 (Beta). So VCRs pretty much costs the same as television sets. But every family's got one in Stranger Things! It's a tiny, tiny, little detail. But it's just something that caught my attention.

You know some things that WERE huge in '83 but the show glosses over? Arcades! Surprisingly we only got one off hand mention of an arcade (when Will's brother is describing things Will likes to do). At the end there's also mention of all the kids getting Ataris. I thought that meant that all these families must have got settlement checks or hush money. But nope, that actually fits! Christmas '83 was the start of the video game crash and Ataris were going for only 60 bucks after an Atari rebate! So it makes perfect sense that all the kids were getting them for Christmas '83! That was one of the things that was spot on.

So damn! Done in by my own compliant! Maybe the producers read my comment. LoL.

Monitor shopping is the WORST. That's the one item that I recommend you actually walk into Best Buy and see for yourself. Don't try to buy off specs on Amazon. Monitors can vary heavily from model number to model number, and sometimes companies will flat out lie about specs. "4ms Response Time... well, ok. It's more like 8ms but nobody is checking this anyway so let's call it 4."

‘It’ Director Andy Muschietti to Helm ‘Robotech’ for Sony

While his highly anticipated movie version of Stephen King’s “It” doesn’t bow for another two months, Andy Muschietti looks to have already found his follow-up, attaching himself to Sony’s adaptation of “Robotech.”

Muschietti’s creative partner Barbara Muschietti will join Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton in producing the project, which is based on the 1980s cartoon series from Harmony Gold USA and Japan’s Tatsunoko Productions.

The story is set in a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology of an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific island and is now using that technology to fight off an impending alien invasion.

The property has attracted everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio to James Wan over the years. Sony now hopes Muschietti can finally push it into production.

Sanford Panitch and Matthew Milam are overseeing for Columbia.

Muschietti broke onto the scene with his horror hit “Mama” starring Jessica Chastain. He was then tasked with replacing Cary Fukunaga as director on Warner Bros.’ adaptation of “It,” which is now one of the most anticipated movies of the fall.

Creators Who Lost Revenue During “Adpocalypse” Seek Class Action Lawsuit Against YouTube

YouTube’s “Adpocalypse” has had a dramatic effect on the revenue streams of some YouTube-based operations, and a channel that has been hit particularly hard is now making a legal challenge to the world’s top video site. James Sweet and Chuck Meré, the Arkansas-based creators behind the Zombie Go Boom channel, have sued YouTube in hopes of revealing the mechanics of the company’s brand safety algorithms.

The story leading up to Sweet and Meré’s lawsuit begins in March 2017, when several brands pulled advertising from YouTube after learning that some spots had been automatically attached to videos promoting terrorism and hate speech. In response, the video site improved its safeguards by making it easier for brands to avoid pairing their ads with risky content types.

That action seems as if it has appeased brands, but it had an unintended effect as well. Some creators complained that their channels had become unintended victims of YouTube’s effort to shield brands from dangerous content. Many channels saw massive drops in revenue, with some losing almost all of their ads.

One of those channels was Zombie Go Boom. Sweet and Meré’s hub, on which they test all sorts of weapons on dummies modeled to look like the undead, is unabashedly bloody and violent. Due to the nature of their content, Sweet and Meré allege they 90 to 95 of their revenue thanks to the Adpocalypse. After making between $10,000 to $15,000 per month (which comes out to about $333 to $500 per day) on ads before YouTube updated its safeguards, they saw their intake drop to $20 to $40 per day.

Sweet and Meré’s lawsuit, according to MediaPost, is targeting California’s unfair competition law. The two creators hope that they can compel YouTube to reveal the specifics of its algorithms. “YouTube has a duty to disclose, with detailed specificity and complete transparency, the terms by which content is selected or deselected for monetization,” reads the complaint. “Failing to disclose this essential information to content providers, along with maintaining unilateral control to change the terms and conditions which govern the payment received by content providers for their creative work is anti-competitive, harmful to the creative content market, and also a breach of good faith and fair dealing.”

A big obstacle the lawsuit will have to overcome can be found right at the top of YouTube’s terms of service. “Although we may attempt to notify you when major changes are made to these Terms of Service, you should periodically review the most up-to-date version,” the policy reads. “YouTube may, in its sole discretion, modify or revise these Terms of Service and policies at any time, and you agree to be bound by such modifications or revisions. Nothing in these Terms of Service shall be deemed to confer any third-party rights or benefits.”

YouTube itself offered a brief comment about the legal case. “We have always worked hard to provide creators with the opportunity to earn revenue on our platform,” a YouTube spokesperson said.

Sweet and Meré hope to turn their lawsuit into a class-action affair that will include multiple content creators as its plaintiffs. We’ll keep tabs on the case to see if it gains momentum as it moves along.

At first this might seem extremely stupid. But I fully endorse this as a means to get YouTube to finally talk about what the hell is happening with the Ad system. When even your top earners have no idea how the system works, there's a problem.

I see you're not actually a Doctor Who fan then. Because if you were you'd appreciate this is not surprising and sits firmly within the accepted lore.

If you accept the last three to four years as "accepted lore." That's pretty much a drop in the bucket of a 50 year canon. So... I'd be careful saying that it's "accepted" or "established" lore. It's really just something that hit mainstream canon in the last few years.

The dumbest thing about all this is that Doctor Who's "lore" and "Canon" changed every week anyway

No one really cared until the reboot

I think that's because people didn't want the series to lose it's way. They wanted the show to stay somewhat grounded in it's roots (especially after the plot details for the American version was leaked). The show has been drifting for awhile now. At this point it's almost more Harry Potter than science fiction. The sonic screwdriver has pretty much become a magic wand. Now they're so out of ideas that they've resorted to flat out stunt casting, you almost have to ask "what show are we even watching anymore? Hermione and the Magic Cupboard?"

I think it's time for this version of Who to end. Wrap it up. Capaldi's run would have been so much better if they had been building toward an end. Let Big Finish have it for the next decade and then come back fresh.

Is Google/YouTube taking a bigger cut of the ad revenue now than in years' past (aka scamming content creators)? Or is it something else?

There's several factors in play...

1. Advertisers are pulling out. This is for a variety of different reasons including not being able to control what videos their ads are placed on and the realization that Youtube's core audience skews absurdly young.

2. Youtube is changing things behind the scenes and placing different YouTubers into different content brackets. This affects what ads get placed on your videos. Sometimes it means no ads on your videos.

3. Something is up with the algorithm. There's definitely something going on with the recommended videos and the trending page. Some people's videos are just being excluded and some weird shit is getting promoted. So far nobody has found a concrete answer.

4. Ad Blockers are become more wide spread, to the point that it's a real, serious crisis for most sites.

5. Some YouTubers are in serious debt because they're idiots who struck gold. There was that one guy who made all those videos about "I'm going to lose my house!" But it turns out that it was his 2nd house that he couldn't afford to pay off.

YouTube definitely seems like it's heading for a 2000-era tech bubble burst. I think advertisers are going to wise up that YouTube's core audience is 9 to 17, and advertising on the platform is pointless.

But hell, when LeafIsHere is reportedly sitting on 2 million dollars in his active checking account (all for making the crapiest content on the internet), then who in their right mind wouldn't be trying to make it on YouTube right now?
