So I actually wasn't going to play through Pokemon, but seeing you guys post about has made me choose otherwise.

I too chose Cyndaquil, as I used Totodile last playthrough and there's a different Grass type I want to use. I just used Cyndaquil/Quilava up until Azaela Town where I picked up a Slowpoke before defeating Bugsy.

On my way to Goldenrod I picked up an Oddish, however I wanted to put off the fight against Whitney and traveled north to do the Bug Catching Contest and grind a bit. I also intended to pick up the next member of my team, however I hit a slight roadblock.

The Pokemon I wanted was Yanma, however it only has a 1% encounter rate! I sat there for like two hours trying to find one to no avail. So I resorted to some other methods. I was already going to have to do this with the final member of my team since it's a SoulSilver exclusive so I don't think it's that big of a deal, but I went into my copy of Platinum and caught a Yanma. I decided that once I trade it over, I'm breed it and use the baby one on my team to sort of balance out the method I used.

Before going into Platinum though I decided it was time to fight Whitney and man is that Miltank built to be frustrating. I thought I had gone in fairly well prepared, I was wrong. Clefairy wasn't a major problem as Oddish poisoned it, allowing Quilava to knock it out incredibly easily. My plan for the Miltank was to put it to Sleep with Slowpoke's Yawn, then have Quilava Smokescreen it to death, so Rollout was less potent. This didn't work out very well at all. First of all I didn't realize Miltank came equipped with a Lum Berry, so I had to take extra hits just to put it back to sleep, but the second time it woke up after two turns. Still though I got three Smokescreens off and thought I'd be okay. Nope! Its Rollout hit every time, knocking out all three of my useful Pokemon, thankfully Togepi hatched so I used it as a sacrifice to Revive Quilava and finish the battle.

Despite how frustrating her fight can be, Whitney is actually one of my favorite gym leaders. Her fight requires actual strategy, she's easily the most memorable fight in the Johto games. Anyway I ended up heading north and defeated Sudowoodo before calling it a night.

Yeah the 80's movie is kinda crap. Most of the best songs are cut, the ending was changed from the plants taking over the world to Seymour and Audrey living happily together and yeah the campiness you mentioned is really amped up.

So yeah I totally agree with your criticisms there.

Oof was not expecting Dentist to fall this early, but I totally get it. I actually still need to watch the 60's version, but I'm totally with you on how campy the 80's movie feels. The actual musical itself is a lot darker though and I genuinely considered nominating Now It's Just the Gas, but thought Dentist! Would do better.

Also I don't think Nicholson's character became the Dentist, because Bill Murray played that role in the 80's version. (Although I still think Nicholson's version was better)

Yeah Pokemon games are pretty notorious for being insanely expensive. I saw SoulSilver at a local game store for 100.

I will say though Gamestop has really improved with used games recently, especially online. They have sales pretty frequently too. DS games usually don't come with an actual case though, if that's important.

Very well said on Heavy Rain! It was no doubt influential and was definitely something unique back when it was released, but better games have since come out and really showed how flawed Heavy Rain was all along.

I have similar feelings about Pokemon. It's always hard to get a new adventure going, but it becomes pretty relaxing once you get past the intro. Also I'm sure you've already thought about this, but I've found the best way to keep Pokemon fresh is by crafting unique teams with Pokemon you haven't used before. It really helps you grow an attachment to them.

Oh yeah ME's crew members are way better. However Fallout goes for a Quantity > Quality mentality there. Seeing how a bunch of different characters handle the apocalypse is really fascinating. But yeah my comparison was mostly in response to how restrictive ME's choices and exploration are.

I think the positives outweigh the negatives, but here's some of my personal ones

Positives:
This is by far the best place to talk about niche things. Everyone I know irl doesn't care about Final Fantasy or Ace Attorney, so it's really nice to be able to discuss interests here. Plus it's been a great way to discover new things. I also love the sense of community, everyone has their different quirks and it's always a treat seeing a game announcement and thinking, "Oh boy I can't wait to see what the Board says about this." Plus even though I've been here less time then most, seeing all these iconic 'Board 8 moments' is a lot of fun.

Negatives:
I have two big ones. Firstly I feel like I can get way too invested in 'just a message board'. Like I've been in the middle of rushes at work and gone 'Oh shit, I have to stop and save Quina.' So it's pretty unhealthy in that regard. The other is, I feel like the Board is generally critical of a lot of things and I think it's kind of made it hard for me to enjoy casual things. To the point where It's kind of hard to keep me entertained if I feel like it's not very well made. That said both of these things are better than the worst of Facebook, so I'm pretty happy here.

Tbh Mass Effect kinda feels it's the skeleton of a Fallout game. It's a really cool universe with interesting characters, but your very limited in your exploration and interactions with characters.

I love how this game wants to be a gritty crime drama, but there's all these 'bosses' that are just over the top lunatics.

Also I will say Ethan's mission where he has to kill the drug dealer might be the only part of this game that actually felt kind of heavy. Especially if you choose to execute him.

Haha that therapist is awful. Ethan blames himself for Jason's death, so he likely blames himself for Shaun as well, leading him to becoming delusional about potentially being the killer. I don't think any therapist worth their salt would believe he actually is the killer. And that's not even accounting him breaking the privacy of his patient.
