mid for Celebi. Celebi is gonna be fairly weak for an early gen legendary, not being on a box or from rby, but probably still has enough to get mid.

Not sure I trust Smoke to necessarily get a pic where hes a palette swap or very close to it of Sub-Zero/Scorpion and hed probably needs one to have a shot at being decent so low fodder for him.

Ill go all low fodder. I dont have much confidence in gen 2 Pokemon without something special backing them up. Don Corneo is in FFVIi and too notable to be LAW. most (or a lot anyways) people will at least know who Goro is.

Hornet could potentially get stronger with a sequel but it's not out yet and doesn't even have a release date. If it actually comes out and is popular, she can be re-ranked.

Agreed with your rankings for the three this topic. Stalin probably can't get rallied like Hitler has been in the past so mid fodder should be his ceiling. He could conceivably be low, too.

CJ could conceivably prove us wrong and be half-decent but Vercettis long-term decline suggests bad things for him and if CJ was really worth more its strange how only 3 years out from his GoTY games release he couldnt even make a 128-character bracket.

Barely. Evolves from Meowth but is very clearly not "the" Meowth. Got a few appearances with Giovanni, because Blofeld.

For all that this show was popular and long-lasting, I kinda have the impression the gamefaqs demographic and similar groups just stopped watching it or caring much about it after a certain point. Maybe some of that's just me. Apparently a revival was announced recently?

Not sure I see people voting for literal babies even with nostalgia. That most of the games weren't very good does him no favors, either.

i have doubts about the seriousness and longevity of anti-Fire Emblem because of Smash sentiment, Marths longevity in Smash should insulate him a bit regardless, and Marth never relied on the slightest on his games for his gamefaqs strength.

I don't think Aquaman's the right kind of entrant to actually get a lot of joke votes here because he's just not important to any actual games people care about. And that Aquaman game is by all accounts bad but it's not exactly E.T. in prominence. For a lot of people he's just the one with kind of lame powers on that goofy superhero hero show they might have watched as a kid. And from what I remember (I missed large parts of Justice League and have never really gone back to it since back in the day) he's WAY, WAY less prominent in Justice League than he was in Superfriends, too.

Minecraft looked a good bit better this year than in 2015 so Steve was probably somewhat better too regardless of Smash. Id be more tempted to high fodder than low but Ill wait at least until hes actually playable before proposing Steves gonna beast or whatever.

The End (Metal Gear Solid 3) - Low fodder
General consensus is that he's one of the best bosses in his game but beyond the connection to Quiet that's about all he is. He's not a very photogenic guy, either.

Auric Goldfinger (007: Nightfire) - Low fodder
Unlike pretty much every other James Bond villain, Goldfinger's name is in his film's title and the theme song is all about him too. Helps a little that his movie is more or less the consensus best pre-Goldeneye James Bond film too. Doesn't even come close to letting him get higher than low fodder, though.

Sigurd (Fire Emblem Geneology of the Holy War) - LAW fodder
With Seiken Densetsu 3 finally officially released, what are the most popular games left in the English-speaking world with only fan translations in English (or no translation at all)? Mother 3 is probably #1. Fate stay Night is probably #2 (maybe not #2 here but still top 10). FE6 and FE4...might be next? I don't think that's enough to save Sigurd from LAW unless the Fire Emblem fanbase will vote for a character whose game they haven't played but he'd probably beat the likes of Spring Breeze Dancin'.

This was my logic, and then I remembered how popular Fire Emblem Heroes is, and that people voting him in decent numbers without playing his game actually might not be that unlikely. I'm still going with LAW but I guess it could be sorta close?

Hulk Hogan (WWF/WCW/WWE games) - Low fodder

I've got little belief in wrestlers without much relevant to gamefaqs' current interests, though. I'd honestly kind of expect modern gamefaqs in general (lots of Nintendo and RPG fans) to have less overlap with wrestling than the general population with similar ages, gender, and location ranges to gamefaqs would. Sheer recognition probably puts Hulk Hogan on the high end of low regardless but...can't get that No Mercy result out of my head.

Austin Powers (Austin Powers) - Low fodder
This franchise was really big and widely quoted for awhile but no particularly notable games and how long it's been on ice suggest it's probably not worth much here at this point.

Dry Bones (Mario series) - Low fodder
I have difficulty seeing Dry Bones being one of the Mario enemies people care about.

The joke with Skee-Ball is that gamefaqs has allowed inanimate objects in games as characters, and gamefaqs also lists Skee Ball as a game in its database for some reason despite not being a video game, so therefore the ball itself must be eligible for character battles.

Im not quite sure what to make of Kaz. I figure most people who played MGS1 probably at least sorta remember him? The other stuff with him isnt that strong Itd be amusing if thats the reason hes worth anything, though.

Cyborg - low fodder
DC stuff isnt really even on my radar at this point but I and probably a good deal of gamefaqs at least know who Cyborg is thanks to Teen Titans. I doubt how much any recent DC stuff is worth but maybe some of thats my own bias.

Onix - mid fodder
Besides being from RBY and brocks signature Pokemon, its available early in GSC through a trade. Anyone who actually used Onix probably used that one.

Miles Morales/Spider-Man (Marvel games) - Mid fodder

His name's in the title for the hyped imminent sequel to the first game, which looked like a decent midcarder even on gamefaqs, and while Miles would be pretty weak without that, even then he wouldn't necessarily be a complete unknown thanks to Into the Spider-Verse. He could conceivably drop later, especially if the game somehow bombs, but I think he's mid fodder for now.

When you use things like this as gauges as being "better", it's not really any different than saying things like "Nobody else knows their way around my house better than me", which seems like a cheat. I mean, it's technically right, but it's also not something anyone cares about or considers a skill.

Nobodys going to pay you for knowing your house really well though, whereas gamefaqs contests have prizes, therefore knowing how to do well in them is literally valuable.

if you exclude starters, legendaries, and stuff that evolves to/from gen 1 Pokemon (so in other words most of the gen 2 Pokemon worth anything); Id guess Ampharos is top 5 of gen 2. Certainly top 10. I dont think its quite enough for mid fodder it but might get close.

Board 8 and a few other places know and care what Umineko is but the site as a whole wouldn't have a clue.
I'd expect its characters to have maybe halfway respectable board votes, followed by a hilarious collapse.

I think Visual Novels are miserably weak here. People generally know what Ace Attorney is, Danganronpa and VLR have low fodder niches, Steins Gate and Fate stuff are maybe recognizable to a decent portion thanks to being extremely popular in other media, and that's probably about it for anything that breaks LAW Fodder for reasons other than purely design. Higurashi and the Key stuff had popular anime adaptations over a decade ago (and the new Higurashi anime adaptation just started today) but I don't think they really reached the gamefaqs masses.

Thanks to Terry Bogard being playable in Smash, Geese got a few cameos here and there, and while Terry in Smash probably isn't going to do a whole lot for the rest of his franchise here, it's certainly not a bad thing.

Don't normally pay attention to the top #100 but I was surprised when I noticed the remaster boosted this game to the site's #2 spot. The game was a financial failure and I had the impression people didn't really care much about it? But now less than a month later and it's down to 23rd so flash in the pan I guess. The character seems to be one of those dialogueless customizable WRPG main characters. If even Dragonborn was struggling to cut it as of 2018, The Fateless One has no hope.

After Persona 5's performance last contest (and in that favorite 5 poll) I'm inclined to give its cast benefit of the doubt and assume they're probably worth a little unless they seem to be specifically disliked.

Chikorita (Pokemon) - Mid fodder
Chikorita did pretty poorly in those grass starter polls but I think a Gen 2 starter has to still be worth something, in 1-on-1 anyways. All those Bulbasaur voters have to go somewhere and I figure a lot of people who bounced off later Pokemon games and wouldn't give current-gen the time of day probably at least tried GSC.

Buttercup (Powerpuff Girls) - Low fodder
Buttercup can be abrasive, a notable minority of gamefaqs (male nerd places in general really) seem to have a problem with certain types of female characters, and gamefaqs in particular has few women to balance that out. So low fodder instead of mid like her sisters. That might be a little uncharitable/paranoid of me? Or perhaps Buttercup would get a "childhood nostalgia exemption" a character who's become relevant more recently wouldn't? But it's not necessarily a given that any of the PPGs are above low fodder in the first place so yeah, having that potentially going against her is enough for me to go low.

Genesis Rhapsodos (Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII) - Low fodder
While the FFVII connection and "black-haired Cloud" was obviously a thing, I think Crisis Core itself was still important for Zack's former strength. Crisis Core used to actually be above the fodder line:

And even a lot of people who didn't particularly like Crisis Core overall seemed to still like Zack in it. But, probably in part because portable games tend not to endure for various reasons, I think a lot of Zack's decline between 2010 and 2013 wasn't (only) "normal" FFVII decline but people no longer caring as much about Crisis Core and Zack in particular. Zack not even getting into 2018 pretty much makes sense with that in mind. And if Zack is no longer special because Crisis Core has dropped off the map, then someone who has nothing other than Crisis Core is probably a total loser at this point even if maybe they could have done something at some point.
