I think what Tucker was trying to bring attention to was that suddenly its us vs. him, as if I have any obligation to forget that Trudeau was trying to do less than a month ago or the various gaffs that Biden and Harris have made with international affairs.

Nothing in that bill is going to deny the existence of gay people lol, theres nothing in it promoting straightness either. Its simply not injecting that level of discussion into schools until theyre old enough to understand the biological variations behind it. Kids are learning all sorts of information at that age, throwing curveballs into what isnt even established for them is a waste of time and most parents arent a fan of it either; guarantee this bill would get passed in just about every other state except maybe the deep blue ones.

You're not removing cutscenes. You're removing everything that isn't a combat encounter.

Everything that isn't a combat encounter is conversations or item scavenging. The story was what made these so compelling in the first game. If they were the "meat" of the game, ND probably wouldn't have made a mode with combat-encounters only.

Exploration is probably meaningful in Elden Ring. I've only played DS1 but I'd imagine it's similar. In TLOU2 in comparison you divert momentarily from the path to find some supplies (which usually never there on Hard/Crushing) or to trigger some optional conversation, which I also would consider as fat to be trimmed.

Doesn't help that the game baits you into thinking it would almost entirely like the Seattle level which is probably the only truly open area of the game. Even then, you're just doing the same conversations and item scavenging in a slightly non-linear fashion that still leads to the same outcome.

That's silly. That's like judging the length of an Arkham game by playing through the Challenge rooms.

But it DOES condense all the actual gameplay segments from the main game that people presumably play the game for, since I'd imagine not everyone playing is invested in the story the entire time and just want to get to the gameplay that they liked from the first game. Most other games don't suffer from this. If you did the same to trim the fat in a Souls game for instance you'd lose probably not even 10 minutes overall. Hell, even the average CoD campaign would have similar completion lengths if you removed all the cutscenes.

Specifically NJ was talking about the "Scenarios" feature you unlock at the end of the game that lets you go through all the enemy encounters from the game in a row. Took him only 3-4 hours overall IIRC

The AI is good but it's not foolproof. Bricks and bottles are still schmuck bait just like in the first game. Even easier now since you can one-hit nearly everything as Ellie that you sneak up on.

I know people have mostly memoryholed all criticism but Nakey Jakey said outside of all the interactive cinematics/cutscenes you could get through the actual game on hard in about 3 1/2 hours. So I can understand why people would be salty over that.

I'm going through it right now on PS5 after getting a Platinum on the first game, and so far my biggest complaint is that it's still mostly just more of the first game, whose single-player gameplay wasn't very compelling without the interesting setpieces/story to go along with it

Just give the game back to Yuke's before they start working on an AEW game and you can't get them back.

Also, the people advocating for a modern No Mercy have no idea how goofy that would be. It would be closer to All-Stars or Battlegrounds

basically, the opening cinematic provides the framework of the story, the dialogue from the NPCs the context (you might need to find them and exhaust dialogue options and/or do their side-quest), and item/weapon/armor/etc. descriptions help fill in the gaps.

a lot of content is missable/difficult to obtain, so a lot of players defer to others, like VaatiVidya, for example, for lore and story breakdowns.

I do appreciate games that try to show you the entire story instead of tell you, but there has to be some sort of groundwork and the Souls games are more cryptic than anything else I've seen in video games. Zelda BOTW for instance doesn't outright show you all of what happened leading up to the actual game, but it shows you the important parts and IMO that's all we need. Bethesda games tend to do a good job of this with their side stories as well

It's pretty good. It usually sits in the background, so if you don't give much of a shit you're not forced to interact with it. It's kind of like Metroid Prime in that regard

Plus they do this cool thing where the design of the areas themselves tell a bit of the story, and I love shit like that

I feel like Doom 2016/Eternal does this better since the premise is all you need to understand the game overall

I was expecting this to be like BOTW where you learn about the world from texts, the condition of certain buildings and talking to NPCs (all of which seem to whisper loudly to you like some odd ASMR) but nope

It's okay of course cause it's just a game end of the day, but I'd like to hopefully see what the buzz is all about in this area

That is apparently the one thing GRRM has completed in the past decade so I sure hope it's worthwhile

The director himself said they could've have a made a story without his help, but I'm not sure how much of that is cap since I'm still on Dark Souls 1 and they're doing this thing where they bombard you with loads of lore with no context and it's a little irritating as a result since I have no idea what any of it means rn
