Got in a few fights with people who thought they could push me around, and even as your typical nerdy teacher's pet honor student throughout grade school, I got suspended once for decking a fifth grader when I was in third grade because he was picking on my best friend at the time. Two people tried me in high school but just threatening to fight them was enough for them to leave me alone.

Yeah, only took almost 10 years of college (mostly fun minus the last couple of years of grad school) and 2 years for a postdoc to get a position starting at 6 figures. I like the pay for the DMV area and I like my job, so pay raises aren't a real motivation for me right now. I've thought about getting certifications to make me a more attractive candidate on the off chance I lose this job which I doubt would happen because you'd have to royally fuck up to get fired, but I'm in no rush for that.

Better but not much has changed other than my car is paid off, I'm a homeowner, and I'm a full time employee now instead of a contractor

Those are big things generally but it's just those three things as the difference compared to last year. Same job different title (and I guess a nice pay bump of 22k compared to this time last year), moved to a different part of the same DC suburb, driving same vehicle.

Yeah it was great. I have a tldr of great things to say about my trip. Pretty much the only negatives were that it was hot as shit and traffic was a hilarious nightmare. Oh yeah I'm black so I did get funny looks sometimes but the same thing happened when I was in freaking Tokyo so it's to be expected. A positive from this were that people were interested in me talking about home in America after asking where I was from, a negative was one little shithead kid at the train station in Hampi who made monkey noises but we had just driven past the slums on the way to the station and I figured I could probably purchase his life 1000x over so I didn't care too much.

Also they checked cars each time one entered the parking lot of a large building. Same with Sri Lanka but there were also an assload of soldiers with guns everywhere and I went through like 4 security checks before actually checking in for my flight there. Guess they are super on edge about terrorist attacks.
