I think it will come down to your utility contract. A lot of utilities have you lock in a rate for a set period of time, which screws you over if prices fall, as you will be over paying. But in a situation like this where the price sky rockets, you are protected.

Almost everywhere else has not has the same issue.

Gas is a commodity, the price is pretty much universal across North America. When supply takes a massive hit in one spot, the rest of the market feels it. There 100% were well freezes in pretty much every oil basin in the US also. Companies in North Dakota, Colorado, Ohio, Pennsylvania were all selling whatever gas they could produce at $600/mcf. This was not just a Texas thing.

It absolutely will. Gas wells and pipelines froze all over the US, not just in Texas. Prices went from $3 to $600. Everyone will have a huge heating bill this month.

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm not saying there's no room for natural gas in conjunction with wind and other forms. I just think the argument that it's because of money spent on wind, isn't a really strong argument. Like you said, it's a drop in the bucket, so how can it be it's fault.

Ah, I agree, unless they spent an absurd amount on windmills or had some specific regulations saying "you can only have this much natural gas power generation and backup storage," I don't think it is much of an argument. I think trying to play the blame game on either too many fossil fuels or too much renewables is dumb.

Even if they had all their wind power operating at 100%, they would still be massively short to meet the energy demand. The only reason anyone has power in Texas right now is because they were still able to increase the electricity generation from Natural gas by 450% and coal by 47% in the last week. Texas has the largest wind generation in the nation, and it is still a drop in the bucket to energy demand in a situation like this.

The argument is that they spent way too much money building wind power instead of bolstering their natural gas infrastructure, since the wind power is basically useless right now.

I don't really know how much truth to that there is though, or how much they spent on wind.

Someone read a couple versions of the script and posted spoilers a month or so ago. Sounds like the original script was absolutely terrible, so they brought in another guy who re-wrote most of it, but wasn't allowed to change the core plot points. It is a lot better, but still pretty trash. Basically Kano has replaced Johnny Cage as the funny guy on the good guys team. He essentially becomes the main protagonist in the story, the rest of the MK characters on the team are pretty much background. Bad news for die hard MK fans, but for people who don't care about that it sounds like Kano was written really well and is the best character in the movie. Cole is another lead character, and it is revealed that he is Scorpion's son.
