Aang was distracted when Azula zapped him. Ozai never had that opportunity, and he only fought Aang after he learned how to redirect lightning.

I don't think Katara and Zuko win against a fully rational Azula with the comet powerup unless they ambush her.

Zuko also has a comet power up though, he's a fire bender too.

The answer is no. Her madness was done well enough in its short window of development - and there are far, far worse ways to illustrate a character's descent into madness, cough cough Game of Thrones - but it was still a conveniently-timed nerfing.

Yeah it was very plausible that she'd descend into mistrust like that, having used fear her entire life (and when it didn't work, that shattered her) so I really like how the show handled that.

I also like something they did in the comics. You know how Azula had the dai li agents at her disposal but she ended up exiling them due to not being able to trust them or anyone else. Well when Zuko became fire Lord he had the kyoshi warriors as his personal bodyguards and there it worked because it was filled with people he can trust like suki and ty lee.

I actually thought that was a great way to parallel the difference between Zuko and Azula.

Edit I also think that was shown in the last episode of the show too.

Yeah easily. I'm so happy they had the balls to go through with how actually insane she went.

If she hadn't gone insane with mistrust I wonder if they would have still beaten her. I mean hell she literally beat the Avatar in the Avatar state by zapping him with lightning, not even the Fire Lord did that. I still don't understand How they could have let that happen.

I thought that was weird when I tried rewatching it. It had always felt like she was there for at least 70% of it, but it turns out she doesn't appear until you're over 40% of the way through.

Right? Yeah, but that's nothing compared to Zuko only becoming a good guy and joining team avatar like 3 episodes before the end.

@Amenadeel when buffy was on netflix i tried to watch the musical episode and found like 10 minutes of the episode were cut and it bugged me
i dont know if they did that to any other episode but they ruined the musical :(

You know what, I've noticed with other Netflix shows, they seem to cut some stuff. Like I remember an episode of friends where Chandler sleeps with a woman who screams in her sleep, and they cut that scene out in the Netflix stream.

I wonder if anyone's been documenting these weird changes netflix has been doing.

I haven't seen Angel in 15 years. Definitely wish it was on Netflix or something so I can peruse some of the episodes. Same with Buffy.

It brings up an interesting point regarding the bender versus non-bender conflict. Should benders that get out of line have their powers taken away by the Avatar? Just like what he did to the Fire Lord?

I don't know. It seems like a reasonable punishment. Bending is a gift, and those who would use that gift to do harm to people do not deserve that gift and should have it stripped from them. I don't think what toph said was unreasonable.

Now that there's no 100 year war, how exactly are they going to imprison or even handle bad people with bending powers?

I can't believe we had to wait well into the second season before we finally saw toph. She's a staple part of the franchise!

She's just so awesome. And to start bending metal too? She's cool and powerful.

I always feel like the first people to cry out racist are secretly the racist ones themselves. I saw it in a movie once so.

For my part, I will say that as a kid, I always sided with the x men when the government were trying to register them, or with the justice league when the government wanted their own taskforce of supers.

But now... I get it. I definitely get why the government would want to regulate basically weapons of mass destruction in human form. I no longer see superheroes as that. Suddenly it makes sense that the government would worry about them.

A couple of things. First off, it's... legal for a stranger to take pictures of kids? Um what? I didn't get that part.

Second I mean... doesn't she have a point? If there's a man out in public alone, and men are typically monsters... well it's just putting two and two together.

It's just that, empires have fallen and risen and fallen again, but the very same organized religion has still survived it all. Just kinda terrifying in a way. Awe inspiring, but in this case the original meaning of the word awe

That's outrageously impressive. And was it consistently in place all that time, or were there decades when it was in hiatus and then had a comeback. I just don't know.

But to have survived that long...
