I played the enhanced edition of System Shock and loved it. Then I played through System Shock 2 after that and loved that too. This was a few years ago, so I'd say they hold up.

Depends on the software used. I know that we start off mute by default but can unmute ourselves. I don't think the meeting organizers ever use the ability to keep people on mute. Also, before we switched to this software, we often had people needing to be reminded to mute their mics.

Because VA's are known to be treated like shit and underpaid. It's something the prominent VA's speak out about a lot.

Treated like shit and underpaid = making $750 an hour to act into a mic. VAs are "known" to be treated poorly because they're the most outspoken divas of the video game industry. There is an outsized importance placed on their role with limp justifications about how special they are for "honing their craft". Guess what? Everyone hones their craft. You tend to get better at your job as you put more time into it. A woman selling farts in jars also hones her craft. Hell, at least the fart jar woman is the most important part of that particular product. Meanwhile there are many developers, testers, designers, etc spending countless hours at a fraction of this diVA's hourly pay rate and they're *essential* to the product. I can and have played many games on mute. I'd like to see anyone play a game without code or bugtesting or decent design. It'd be an outright miserable experience if it exists at all.

I'm not against VAs making more money and they certainly can enhance the experience, but they're not the be-all-end-all that they're portrayed as and they're definitely not the talented gods they're held up as. You can find countless amazing VAs on youtube, just like singers and other entertainers. Turns out that talent is really not that hard to come by and the age of the internet exposed that over the age of closed media like TV where a handful of gatekeepers could pretend only a handful of people on earth had talent.

I'd still go with software development. The only reasons I went into it are because I like computers, I like programming, and I had no idea what else to do. Luckily for me, my interested aligned with a lucrative career. Still hoping to retire early.
