That's what the right claims about all environmental regulations, though.

You can read some of what is being proposed in the bill I linked to earlier. It legitimately does come across as trying to separate actual environmental protection from fake environmental protection that gets abused to delay projects

The environmental regulations are ones that are actively bad for the state and don't actually protect the environment. They just let people sue and delay and sue and delay so nothing gets done.

Like labor unions will oppose anything that results in a construction boom because excess work doesnt help their existing members, allowing non-union workers decreases their power and an increase in unionized construction workers could cause them problems in the future.

The obvious way to stop that is to make it illegal for a person to buy multiple homes. Make it so that if you already own a home and buy another one, you're required to put your previous home up for sale. And make it an absolute prohibition against owning more than 2 homes at a time.

That is functionally a ban on renting. It would fuck over people who cannot, or do not want to purchase a place.

Seems to be. Slashing wages and environmental protections won't stop speculative buyers from grabbing up multiple homes and holding on to them to sell off for profit or take out equity loans to invest elsewhere. Same problem in parts of Australia right now. Buyers who don't live in these homes just grabbing up as much as they can to resell later or take out mortgages to use as investing funds. There's often enough homes already but people can't live in them because someone else owns it and doesn't use it. Building more just gives the greedy collectors more assets to play with. It doesn't solve the underlying issues.

There's a channel I follow of an Arizona home inspector who documents how builders are refusing to meet minimum safety standards. Those houses are not structurally sound, built as cheap as can be, and still cost half a million. Anytime he documents an unsafe condition the builders attempt to revoke his license. Slashing wages and protections seems to me to be totally in line with that. Build crappy unsafe homes but charge the same to reap ever greater profits.

I dont see Newsom's plan here helping anyone. All it seems to do is give builders / investors more money.

A smarter plan would probably be to have the government subsidize building homes instead. This would offload some of the cost of the home off the builder so that they can be sold for cheaper (and make selling the home cheaper a part of the subsidy). But that would increase their spending deficit so that's not really likely to happen. If only they could get taxes out of billionaires to help fund projects like this.

The CEQA exemptions are a good thing. Im not commenting on the rest of your post because I havent found what is actually being proposed.

Isn't Sarah McBride trans? I haven't listened to this because I don't do podcast or video. If there is an article I will read it, but the comments in this topic are confusing to me since I assumed the trans member of Congress is pro-trans rights.
