On January 8, 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intercepted an individual attempting to illegally import four deceased and dehydrated monkeys into the United States via Logan Airport. The individual was returning to the U.S. after a visit from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Upon arrival of foreign flights to Logan Airport, CBP Canine (K9) units will perform a preliminary screening of baggage. During the screening of Delta flight 225 from Paris, CBP K9, Buddey alerted his handler to a specific piece of luggage.

When questioned about the bag, the passenger declared that it only held dried fish. The luggage was x-rayed and appeared to hold dried fish. Still, upon physical inspection, the officer identified the dead and dehydrated bodies of four monkeys.

Raw or minimally processed meat from wild animals in some areas of the world, including Africa, is referred to as bushmeat. Bushmeat comes from a variety of wild animals, including bats, nonhuman primates (monkeys), cane rats (grasscutters), and duiker (antelope), and may pose a communicable disease risk. These types of meats are not allowed entry into the United States.

CBP immediately contacted the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the agency with regulatory authority over primate material. The CDC requested that the luggage containing the bushmeat be seized and that Delta Airlines either destroy or return the bags to France. The 4 kilograms of bushmeat was detained for CDC and marked for destruction.

The potential dangers posed by bringing bushmeat into the United States are real, said Julio Caravia, Area Port Director CBP Boston. Bushmeat can carry germs that can cause illness, including the Ebola virus. The work of CBPs K9 unit and Agricultural Specialist were vital in preventing this potential danger from entering the U.S., he added.

Poor pup just wanted to sniff some coke and go home to his family. None of this monkey business.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), National Security Agency (NSA), and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), along with key U.S. and international government agencies published a Joint Cybersecurity Advisory today on malicious activity by a Peoples Republic of China (PRC) state-sponsored cyber actor, known as Volt Typhoon, to compromise critical infrastructure and associated actions that should be urgently undertaken by all organizations.

CISA and its U.S. Government partners have confirmed that this group of PRC state-sponsored cyber actors has compromised entities across multiple critical infrastructure sectors in cyberspace, including communications, energy, transportation, and water and wastewater, in the United States and its territories. The data and information CISA and its U.S. Government partners have gathered strongly suggest the PRC is positioning itself to launch destructive cyber-attacks that would jeopardize the physical safety of Americans and impede military readiness in the event of a major crisis or conflict with the United States.

Say rabies mutates and gets in the water supply or something and 90% of the country catches it. What would anti-vaxxers do? We're talking about a disease that has a vaccine that is 100% effective if given before symptoms start showing, and a mortality rate of you will die if you don't receive treatment before symptoms show. Would they get the vaccines or would they try their luck with horse paste and/or something equally absurd?

It was weird because usually when a politician shows up on SNL, it's expected that they'll get some shit on the show and it won't be so one-sided. Not one-sided meaning Nikki vs Trump, but one-sided meaning Nikki vs reality. She pretty much got to say whatever she wanted to say without having anything thrown at her about her own record.

I had someone tag the plane I was in with a green laser a few months ago. I don't understand: is it something you can see reflecting on the plane? I can't imagine why someone would want to shine a laser at an airplane.

If you're like ten years old it might seem cool.

Not any of you specifically.

Dangerous laser strikes topped all previous records in 2023. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) received 13,304 reports from pilots last year, a 41 percent increase over 2022.

Shining a laser at an aircraft is a serious safety threat. Many types of high-powered lasers can incapacitate pilots, many of whom are flying airplanes with hundreds of passengers. Pilots have reported 313 injuries since the FAA began recording data on laser strikes in 2010.

The FAA is committed to maintaining the safest air transportation system in the world. Aiming a laser at an aircraft is a serious safety hazard that puts everyone on the plane and on the ground at risk, said FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker.

People who shine lasers at aircraft face FAA fines of up to $11,000 per violation and up to $30,800 for multiple laser incidents. Violators can also face criminal penalties from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
