Are there times where a person doesnt know the value of an item they have, and they get taken advantage of? Absolutely.

But when there are multiple people interested in buying the same item, you tend to get the VALUE that the market dictates.
Where "the market" is just a dressed up way of saying "the people who are there at the time". It's not some omnipotent invisible hand dictating rules.

No, no. That is not what we've said.

The exact wording of what was said is that it's "worth what someone is willing to pay for it."

If it sells for a lowball price due to one or more parties lacking sufficient market information, that doesn't lower the item's value.

The person who's willing to pay $3.25 million doesn't have to be in the room with the item for said item to be worth $3.25 million. He just has to exist somewhere out there in the market.

Because if you paid $1 for an item worth $3.25 million, you essentially made a deal with a $3,249,999 profit.
Ah, so it's "lacking sufficient market information" if it sells for less, but "lacking brain cells" doesn't matter for if it sells for more? If everyone is offering oil changes for $50 but a provider manages to fool someone into paying $100 for the same service, does that mean the real value of an oil change is $100 and everyone other than the one scammer is "lacking sufficient market information"?

Very unlikely. TCGs, like most other collectibles, have established markets. It's like how when you almost anything, it's not just some number you pulled out of a hat, but something determined by the product's worth relative to the economy it exists in. Like, c'mon, you understand basic capitalism. It's fine if you don't like cards, but you're not making sense just assuming a non-existent scenario in order to shit on cards.
Yes I do understand capitalism, which is why I understand things like marketing which are used to make items look more valuable than they really are.

Usually, an item is worth the highest price someone will pay for it. If somebody sells/buys it for $1, that doesn't mean it was only worth a dollar. It just means that the right buyer wasn't in the room at the time.

This is why auctions are held, because it gets all the right people in the right room in order to sell an item for what it's actually worth.

Ripping off somebody's grandma clearing out her attic by vastly underpaying for a valuable item doesn't mean the item is worth less, it just means the seller was uninformed as to its true value.
Your last sentence contradicts the idea that "it's worth what it has been sold for."

That's exactly what it means.

The noun "worth" refers to the monetary value of something.
The adjective "worth" mean having monetary or material value.

In this case, he's exactly right, though. Value is a subjective quality. An item that's worthless to you ("cardboard") can be worth thousands, if not tens of thousands, to somebody else.

I know you probably wouldn't pay $3.25 million for a bunch of "pieces of paper," but if those pieces of paper were used in 1938 to create Action Comics #1, there are collectors out there who will spend $3.25 million to own them.

In other words, just because you think paper or cardboard is worthless, does not mean they are worthless.
Just because an idiot pays $3.25 million for it, doesn't mean it's worth it.

As someone who's dabbled heavily in sports cards as an "investment", there's definitely a difference between artificial scarcity and actual scarcity.

Example: Modern cards that are "Limited" to 5, 10 , 100, 500 etc. copies, where the only difference is the color of the card. They make them every year, so how rare can they really be?

As opposed to something like a 1952 Mickey Mantle "Rookie" card. With many being destroyed due to them not selling, and then getting into poorer and poorer condition as time passes, that created actual scarcity as there is rumored to only be 1500 copies left in existence.
This is cardboard we're talking about.

Immigration is a band-aid. The underlying issues are still present, which is why people already there are having fewer children, and the descendants of immigrants will likely follow the same pattern, so you're just throwing more people at the problem and hoping for the best. Look at Canada's current policy which is bringing in so many immigrants while jobs pay poorly and houses are ridiculously expensive. It's basically a pyramid scheme.

Technology that reduces crashes and makes cars safer isn't increasing insurance rates. It's the greedy insurance companies increasing insurance rates. What we really need is a government option to reduce rates. Of course the best solution would be to reduce reliance on cars, but if we can't do that then we have to recognize how essential they are to living in the US and have the government provide insurance itself, especially since having insurance is mandated to drive a car.

Putting limits on overseas speculation on home purchases wouldn't hurt either.
Make that limits on speculation in general and you'll actually solve the problem in a large way. Japan had a problem with property prices in the 80s when speculation was rampant, but the problem went away when the bubble burst. The key was that the bubble stayed burst. In the US we had the bubble leading up to 2008 and then the geniuses in charge instituted too-big-to-fail policies that allowed the bubble to continue (after a brief dip in prices which let more speculators buy up properties on the cheap).

Wait. Why do we all agree on voting for Democrats every single time? I thought that teaches Democrats bad lessons and actually accelerates the GOP fascist takeover?

If that's not true, then I was right the entire time and there is no point to disagreeing with me.

And no shit we have to do more than vote. Doesn't change the fact that we need to vote.
Just because we agree on voting democrat every single time, doesn't mean that people at large will. There's also the problem where guaranteeing your vote means to democrats that they can take your vote for granted. Given that democrats have all the power here, what can they do to stop the genocide?

The Democrats aren't the ones threatening us! I'm fucking alarmed by how unalarmed the Dems are about this election! Project 2025 should be getting posted all over the place to highlight how dire things are! And that isn't fucking happening for some reason!
Well they're not going to go into detail because that would mean them actually doing something about it. Instead they'll say things like "trump is dangerous" and "we need to stop trump" because the only solution they propose is "vote for us".

But at least you have proven you are another fake leftist who views the very real and imminent threat of the GOP as Democrat fearmongering.
I'm a fake leftist because I want real solutions and not just "vote harder" while democrats continue to do nothing when voted in?

Describe how the Democrats losing would get us closer to ending the GOP.

Nobody is arguing for that. We all agree on voting for democrats every single time. Now describe how the democrats winning would get us closer to ending the republican party.

If democrats can threaten us with republicans every single election, what's their incentive to do better? Moreover, if that's the strategy, and given that the two-party system will guarantee a republican victory at some point, what's stopping project 2025 from being project 2029 or project 2033 or project 2037? Feels like we're just delaying things instead of actually fixing them.

I love how no one is considering the large number of pro-Israel voters who would turn on Biden if Biden flipped on this issue.

It's not like ever Democrat voter is on one side of this issue

I think you're underestimating just how popular israel is with Americans. Obviously people like us understand that what's happening in Gaza is genocidal, But most religious folk, especially the religious right, see Israel as some bastion of holy land. They, unfortunately, don't really give a fuck what's happening in Gaza because they consider Israel's autonomy above everything else.

Biden would lose more support from them than support he would gain from preventing what's happening in Palestine. At least, that's how it reads to me.

I certainly wish I was wrong, but I don't think I am.
