I guess I'm not sure what you're looking for then. A company becoming big and popular by doing things that hololive doesn't do wouldn't be competition, it would be it's own separate thing.

I think they mean competition in the sphere of large companies, not competition specifically in what hololive does. because right now even with that fairly large umbrella there isn't much (at least not in english-speaking land)

it's still fundamentally the same game. it's upgraded in a lot of ways but just ask yourself if you would want to play TTYD again if you still had your old copy and if the answer is no then probably not worth getting

Fun fact: schoolkids in the UK were/are taught that a healthy diet includes "5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day" and that for the purposes of this, potatoes don't count

well nutritionally they're more similar to stuff like rice

it's why a tomato sandwich feels normal but a potato sandwich is weird, or why you stirfry vegetables and have them on rice but it would be strange to stirfry potatoes on rice

Right right. More to the point, I was suggesting that maybe they moved their business (and servers) for what used to be better privacy and other protections and regulations the US doesn't afford to tech businesses.

from my understanding, a lot of tech moves out of europe because of this sort of government meddling (among other things) that just takes a lot of extra effort for no real gain

I don't think any company likes the GDPR, and that includes companies that have no intention of spying on users or selling their data or anything, just because it's extra work to comply with + big fines if you mess up

Visual art is one of the deepest forms of human expression. AI art has no depth or meaning. There's no question. There's no revelation. It's just a shape and colors. I don't really care for shapes and colors. I prefer art.

Reading this makes me feel like there's a big divide in definitions when talking about this and it's part of why people can't agree very well

There's art, in the sense you describe - form of creative expression, maybe trying to get across some sort of deeper meaning, etc

But then there's also "art" in the sense of visual depictions of things that are more used for a purpose rather than as a purpose, and there are tons of these used all the time with no sort of creative expression component behind it. Like basically any situation where you'd use some sort of generic clip art, you can now instead use AI generated art that is more specifically accurate to what you are trying to show.

Before AI "artistry" my best tool was typing the prompt into google and browsing pintrest for an approximation. Now, I can legit make a cat in a wizard hat riding a flying red dragon.

4chan used to have some really awful containment boards + a bunch of other actual interest boards where you could actually talk with people in normal ways about normal things (albeit rather rude + casually racist people). At some point in the past, I don't know exactly when, the containment boards sorta overflowed into the rest of the site and it really did get worse

I feel that the reason people follow influencers are for that semi para-social relationship where you feel apart of said persons life. Obviously you know your not their friend, but you relate with them in such a way that you become invested in their success or even their downfall.

But VTubers dont come with that connection. Its like watching an AI stream to an extent. Whats the appeal here exactly?

Honestly, I sort of feel like vtubers get more parasocial fan stuff going on than usual streamers probably because there are more women streaming as vtubers

But the real "answer" to this question is: do you not have any friends online that you have no idea what they look like, how old they are, etc? I don't see why you can't relate to someone just because they don't have a webcam

In the public markets, that means that companies like Google, Meta, and Microsoft were rewarded for having unfocused, capital-intensive businesses that required mass layoffs when times got tough, because the market loved the idea that theyd found a way to save money. They werent punished for their poor planning, their stagnating products, their mismanagement of human capital, or their general lack of any real innovation because the numbers kept going up.

Yes, they fired a bunch of people, and yes, doing so is a way to sustain the existence of the company itself. But look at it from the other perspective - it's a problem of their own making. Desperate for growth at all costs, they hire a bunch of people. This does not result in significant improvements of their product, it just results in a larger company. But the market sees this and things Oh, they're growing, that's good, buy buy buy! and their stock price and overall worth goes up.

Now, later, they have more people than they can afford to pay. By any reasonable metric, someone(s) high up in the company fucked up massively here. They made an unsustainable misprediction about the future so big that they now need to fire thousands of employees or the entire company is at risk? That's insane. But then when they do this, the market goes Ah yes this is totally normal, they're being smart by firing so many people when what they really just witnessed was mismanagement on a massive scale

Probably something about jumping. I do like how you get these really crazy floaty high jumps while running but jumping when you don't have much momentum feels super awful + it bothers me how you slow down to a crawl on landing

I can't say for sure, since I've never been in the position (and hopefully never will) but I suspect if my life was in danger or I had significantly lowered quality of life, I would also willingly be a test subject for something like this. it's made by people who clearly (mostly) know what they are doing, it has a chance to provide significant benefits to me, and even if it doesn't fully work it's helpful in gathering information that can be used to further help me and/or others who end up in tthe same position.

if you're in a bad situation to start out with it seems pretty reasonable to take calculated risks to improve it

It's hard to really think/reason about but one interesting thing is that the global average temperature is probably a lot lower than you'd expect. It's around 14-15C

So something like a 4C drop (although I kinda remember hearing the ice ages were 6-7C colder than today) is pretty significant difference. Imagine you add another 1-2 months of snow to the year, while simultaneously removing 1-2 months of time for the snow from the previous year to melt. Id also stay away from anime, and veer towards dramas if you want to watch stuff. Anime Japanese is. Never how people here actually speak. Youre going to embarrass yourself if you mimic that. The morning dramas are good if you can stomach them.

I've never really liked this mindset much. like okay, maybe it's not how people speak, but it is obviously comprehensible japanese and it's not like you will be unable to convey meaning because you use "anime-speak" or whatever.

Not to say you can learn solely by just watching anime either. You gotta actually study some stuff and put in effort and whatnot. But in terms of just getting language exposure you should pick whatever you find in that language that's interesting enough to keep you doing it and not just give up. whether that's anime or dramas or novels or talk shows or etc etc

I kinda assumed that reading it meant not misreading it and properly comprehending what was said. You can make an argument for not remembering it very well a while later but otherwise I don't think it's really "reading" at all. otherwise I already read like 1 page per second because that's how long it takes for me to see all the text

I'm ok with calling it "good" but not too much above that. The boss fights are great, the music is great, the game still has a lot of its style and humour, but man is it ever too large with too much backtracking

other roguelikes I liked are crypt of the necrodancer and dungeon of the endless. but the former is very fast-paced actiony as well and the latter is sort of jank and hard to really recommend

You forgot a 0 there. You'd go from 350 words per minute to 17,500 words per minute. You'd be able to read the entire trilogy in about 32 minutes

I feel like at this point you'd only ever be able to read e-books since you'd probably destroy physical books from flipping the pages too fast. you'd be going faster than a page every 2 seconds

Everything about Dyson spheres is so tremendously impractical. Not just the entire shell concept, a fully encapsulated star, due to the sheer amount of material and the forces involved. But even a network of orbiting objects around a star has such tremendous energy needs that the energy being captured wouldn't be even close to what it took to put it there. Continued maintenance, converting the radiant energy into something useful and getting that energy where it would need to go, etc.

Any civilization capable of building a Dyson sphere most likely wouldn't need one.

I'm actually curious if you know any math / articles on the energy requirements for something like this

if you can catch even like 50% of the sun's energy it's just such a massive amount that I feel like it would probably recoup any costs in short order
