Checking into it more I'm not sure this is true? 3/5 of the games in my summary are ones I've hidden. Maybe because I hid them after playing them, instead of before, they counted?

Afterimage based.

I barely played C:S this year, so I dunno how it racked up 300+ sessions. The second graph doesn't make ANY sense other than that I did indeed play a bunch of metroidvanias. (I revisited Stardew Valley one day for "farming sim," I didn't play a single roguelike deckbuilder unless Balatro counts, I played a single autobattler, a single tower defense game, and I'd have to see what it considers cyberpunk.)
Afterimage is sooo good

My spider chart makes sense this year but it's definitely been nonsense in previous years. I'm not sure what it's actually based on. (Though yes, in your case it's almost certainly counting Balatro as a roguelike deckbuilder.)

Right-wing media is obviously a huge problem, but I'm inclined to think it mostly only catches people who have a dormant right-wing worldview already. It's always been very unclear to me why anyone would accept the premises or solutions it offers, otherwise.

You don't sound transphobic, but I do want to hammer this point: the candidate who focused on trans people was Trump, not Harris, and he won the election. If Harris had won I'd be much more likely to agree with this analysis, that people don't really care.

I mean kids are just people-- has a political ad ever changed how you felt about anything, even when you were that young?

For me personally they definitely do but I think only ever in a negative way. Easy for a candidate's political ad to make me think "wow they're a dogshit candidate aren't they"

But also someone I trust calling me an asshole and meaning it is probably the single most likely thing they can do to change my behavior for the better so maybe I'm just not the average person here.

I actually don't agree with this. People are inherently defensive and tend to consider people calling them out "the enemy"

Like I'm not saying their hate of moral fiber call outs is literally the driving force, but some random Dem voters on the internet spreading rhetoric telling a genuinely undecided voter how they're terrible people for considering voting Trump? I do see it being more likely they just say "you know what? Fuck you" and voting Trump than making an actual effort at determing the better candidate.
This is why I say the general public is more to blame than politicians lmao

His explanations are nonsense and, themselves, based on racism, and I don't "lalala" I responded to basically all of them.

Also I don't give a shit if it comes from racism initially or not; the result is racism, and subsequently division between poor people who share common interests. You keep talking about smokescreens that hide the real enemy: here is probably the single biggest one, historically and in 2024.

I mean there are truly awful CEOs/politicians, no one is questioning that, but they're largely being awful because they think it'll make them rich or powerful. They're downstream from ordinary people, who are the ones actually approving of and incentivizing being hateful, denying medical care, raising prices, etc.

Like ideologically I just don't agree that Big Men vs. Lone Gunmen is the driving force of history. I'm not going to hand-wring when a CEO's chickens come home to roost but I'm pretty unconvinced that it will cause meaningful change, either. If 10k-100k people woke up tomorrow and decided to go shoot CEOs then maybe.

I just think the "deplorables" rhetoric that's seeping into all the circles where this is a discussion point is really crushing any hope at change any time soon.
Well that anger is very clearly not going away any time soon. Basically every Democrat I know IRL including very very moderate ones are at a point of "fuck this country full of awful people" and admittedly that's my bubble, but it wasn't there in 2004 or 2016 or 2020 and it is there now. So given that that anger is 1) real and 2) not going away, how do we forge a path forward anyway?

I mean I have close friends this affects so I care.

But I also have the luxury of caring because I'm not affected by any single issue enough that it consumes my voting. Which is what a lot of you don't get. Empathy is a luxury for many. The irony is that by instantly assuming people who are affected so hard by other issues that they're automatically unempathic bigots kinda shows you're not really as empathic as you think, you're just using that as a way to preach.

People who were idiots and voted Trump on economy/inflation are probably by and large extremely poor and yeah I don't judge them because they can't be bleeding hearts (I judge them for not doing research and thinking Trump winning would be good for that)
Genuinely, I would have a lot less issue with people voting republican if, for instance, Generic Republican said "We're going to build the wall, arrest trans people, and lower inflation!" and their base said back "We don't give a shit about the first two! Focus on inflation only!" That sounds pretty excusable to me! It's not ideal but you know, maybe we can work with it!

The key here is there isn't that reponse. By and large the response is "yessss, fuck [slur]s!" So it's not apathy, it's not that empathy is a luxury they can't afford, and it's not that people care about their bubble. It's that many, many people actively DO care and consistently choose to prioritize hurting others as the issues they care the most about. You see this with tons of issues -- there are lots of anti-abortion men, anti-trans cis people, anti-immigrant citizens (frequently in places like fucking Ohio that aren't even near the border they're complaining about), etc. Empathy is a luxury but so is hatred, and these people choose to pay for the latter instead of the former over and over and over again.

Paratroopa1 posted...
Everyone should treat trans rights as something that affects them personally because anyone can be a trans person

Doing exactly this won tons of people over to the Republicans' platform this election cycle, actually.

But that's hatred so it's obviously not held to the same standards.

If you're thinking about it like this you've somewhat missed the point of the "trans rights are human rights" slogan, which is that it isn't a separate category from human rights like you've implied here.

But yeah I mean the US is broadly a disaster for human rights. The problem is curtailing human rights in some way is insanely popular. Basically everyone wants to do that in some form. Not sure how you make significant progress there in a broad sense, whereas there are specific and obvious pathways to small wins.

Quite the opposite of being a wildcard, Trump is one of the most easily manipulated world leaders in recent memory. Remember that following a shooting he was very briefly advocating for taking people's guns. Within a few hours, he had met with the NRA and reversed course. No because legal immigrants have a right to those benefits and are actively contributing to those programs when they're integrated into the system. And before we go on the hypothetical of blanket amnesty and suddenly all these people are "legal" that still puts us back to square one, and now more people are emboldened to come which basically sets us on an endless cycle of this. I don't have a solution to this but we have to draw the line somewhere first.
You don't have a solution because you haven't actually identified the problem yet. You've already ruled out immigration itself, overloading social services, and legality as the issue in this post alone.

the problem is that "we" isn't the one who's paying and you're asking for a massive change that does absolutely nothing to people dealing with the worst of the issue here and now. there's a bigger issue of income inequality and the class war, totally.
If the bigger issue is class war, you should definitely fight the impulse to blame societal problems on immigrants. You and an illegal immigrant have 100x more in common than you and the politician who says he's going to end illegal immigration if you vote for him, and you're much more likely to make meaningful change by working together than by being played against each other.
