Staying up until 3am playing Paper Mario: TTYD... haven't done that in 19 years.

My friend had an Action Replay, so we used it to give our files hacked stats and items. I decided to go through the Pit of 100 Trials, a gauntlet of 90 increasingly harder battles that has absolutely no save points. Mom definitely wasn't happy when she caught me.

My brother's friends are spending the night here, and my brother was making burritos for them to eat on their trip tomorrow. He went to toss a bag of trash and a dragonfly got in in the two seconds the door was open. It was flying around erratically, then my brother swatted it when it finally landed. We think it might have been clinging to the door beforehand. I always assumed they slept at night. We were out for dinner earlier, so it probably landed when the lights were out.

Definitely enjoying the remake. The characters are much more expressive and there's some quality of life improvements, like quick partner swapping and starting off with 15 item slots.

If the remake is your first time experiencing TTYD, I'd highly recommend going to the badge shop and getting the Nostalgic Tunes badge, which makes all the music and item jingles be that of the original. I feel it's superior. The modern soundtrack isn't bad, but I feel like the more grand, orchestral soundtrack doesn't fit.

My brother's letting me borrow the TTYD remake since he'll be out of town for a couple days for a concert. This is gonna be good, but I imagine Vivian's randomized button attacks will cause me issues. I'm still not intimately familiar with the Switch's action button layout.

Edit: Actually, I just remembered my brother got me a Gamecube style Switch controller. I haven't used it since you can only remap buttons on Joycons, but it should work perfectly for a remake of a GC game! Now if only I could make it display GC button icons for attacks...

Greaaat. The electronic recliner function on the couch has malfunctioned. The right side is jammed up or something and won't go back down. It's always had minor hitches, but we figured we could ignore it. The only thing that might fix it is removing the back and reconnecting it.

It's on the left cushion, too, and the left cushion of our last couch was also defective. It had a recliner function, but just needed you to pull a lever to tug on a wire. After a couple months, the wire snapped. Only manually pulling the footrest could get it back up. The right side continued to function normally for the rest of the time we had it.

Had a hard time getting to sleep last night. The upstairs vents don't blow out as much air, and we don't have the AC as cold as it was when mom was here, so her room was still stuffy. I found a small electric fan in her room (smaller than a CD), and that helped once I got used to the noise it made. Still, I think I'm gonna have a rough time while this heat wave is going on. We're not even in the worst of it yet.

Never cared much for Kraft macaroni or Little Debbie snacks. They always tasted artificial to me. Last year's Christmas stocking had some in it, and it tasted like plastic with a hint of sugar. Now, I do like their fruit pies and nutty bars, but I still have no idea how LD and Hostess managed to remain in business this long. Wasn't really surprised when Hostess briefly shut down in 2012.

Went out to lunch with my aunt again. Afterwards, we went back to my old town and visited my old library and grocery store. In the library, I once again felt like a kid in a candy store. But instead of being surrounded by different flavors of sweets, I was surrounded by different flavors of creativity! I couldn't take anything out since I got rid of my library card long ago, but it was just nice to browse again.

At the grocery store, I just plain felt younger; like I was an optimistic and energetic 23 year old instead of a broken and miserable 34 year old. If I ever strike it rich, I'm moving right the hell back there, and only death itself could make me leave.

I wish more games would handle collectibles the way Okami did. They were individually numbered, so instead of it saying "you got a stray bead", it said "you got stray bead #x". So if you're missing, say, beads number 44, 67, and 91, you could just look up those specific ones. It's FAR more effective than cross-referencing a guide and double-checking locations.

Only time I ever touch gambling in a Yakuza game is when I get a 21 charm that gives you a few auto-wins at Blackjack.

Only 9AM and it's already 81 degrees. This heat wave is gonna be nasty.

The summer heat just feels so hostile, and the buzzing of cicadas is a constant annoyance. I didn't have the smoothest experience in school either, so leaving all that stress, depression, and failure, only to go into sweltering heat and incessant buzzing? Yeah, I never really got to unwind until I finally graduated high school.

If we got autumn vacation, I probably would have been happier.

Thanks for taking care of that. These days, it's always difficult to decide how to use those last few posts.

It also helps if you play Control and its expansion, AWE. It introduces the FBC, who are essentially the SCP Foundation, who are responding to the shit going down in AW2. One of the episodes of AW2's Night Springs expansion also has you playing as the protagonist of Control (minus the powers and other-dimensional handgun she gets).

Also, the female protagonist's partner is a big reference to Max Payne. He's modelled after Remedy's director (like Max was in the first game), and has his voice actor (who sadly passed away shortly after the game's release).

I'd imagine that when the world was still reeling from 9/11, the writers weren't prioritizing full accuracy. Having everyone, villains included, finding it tragic could have brought comfort to people IRL.

I like when games do this, where your starter weapon isn't forgotten immediately, but evolves throughout the game to be able to hold its own against the other weapons you have.

The only one that comes to mind ATM is the burst pistol from Robocop: Rogue City. It starts out as an already-reliable handgun with infinite ammo, but there's definitely times where the situation calls for another weapon. But find the right circuit boards for it, along with the best-shaped chips, and it becomes a devastating full-auto bullet hose that never needs reloading.

Super Mario 3 looks slightly more flat than Zelda. It's probably the one I'd get, too.

It's got all those ridges on the side. You spill something on that, it'll be a pain to clean those out.

NES and Zelda have the most flat surface.

Reminds me of when a mud dauber made a nest right in between our front and screen doors. Even when closed, our screen door had some small gap in the corner it could squeeze through.

Repentance is more difficult, so if you're looking for a challenge, get it.

Saejima and Akiyama were introduced in 4, and they're two of the playable characters, so you'll remember them.

Getting my skull caved in 400 times for a few feet of progress doesn't sound fun (soulslike).

At the same time, I admire Fromsoft's refusal to casualize their stuff. They've got a well-earned fan base and good reputation from it. I wish more studios had their cojones.

When you feel comfortable eating normally again, keep a drink with you for a month or so, because food will get caught in the gap left behind. A quick swish will get it out.

When an update to the site accidentally removed the 500 post limit, so the mods decided to let one of the MLP Socials to get to something like 1500-2000 posts before they locked it.

Hardspace: Shipbreaker is one of my favorite chill-out games. It's about systematically dismantling abandoned spaceships and putting the right parts in the right receptacle. Only flaw is that there's unskippable sections where some character blabs away about "corporations bad" and you can't do anything productive, even check your email. Thankfully, there's also a free-play section that's just about the dismantling.

Terminator: Resistance and Robocop: Rogue City are both prime examples of how licenced games should be done. They're both competent shooters with immersive sim elements, both are very heavily based on/around the most beloved entries in their series, and you can tell how much love the devs have for them. I genuinely can't wait for whatever the devs have planned next. The only big 80s properties I can think of them doing next is either Alien or Predator.

I didn't like GTAV since I'm not an online player, and the story campaign had almost no missions that gave rewards or perks for some inexplicable reason. Also, tying one of the stock markets to an online connection was stupid, since 3 out of 5 story mode assassination missions affected stocks there.

Yeah, if they put it in, they obviously wanted you to use it. I also like when the enemy has some useful device or item, and you can either destroy it to immediately beat the mission, or do some extra work to take it for yourself.

Maybe the problems of two people don't amount to a hill of beans, but this is our hill... and these are our beans!

I like watching when it's a skilled person playing the hardest difficulty in a very efficient way. Of course, the game has to be entertaining to watch, too. Getting into multiple fights with tanky enemies might be entertaining to play, but definitely not to watch. And because stealth games tend to discourage combat, they're the best to watch.

I actually would like a remake of Sunshine. Give Mario a more expansive moveset that doesn't rely on FLUDD, add a blue coin tracker, overhaul/remove the Corona mudboat section, revamp the toxic river secret level (and the journey to get there) and you're good to go.

Anyone thinking of starting a new farm: The riverlands farm now comes with a free fish smoker, which doubles the value of any fish, and quality levels are taken into account. Otherwise, you have to jump through a couple hoops to get one.

The meadowlands farm also comes with a coop and two chickens, and with how easy it is to unlock and build mayonnaise makers, you can get a good operation going early.

Is that like when Metal Gear Survive charged $10 of premium currency for save slots?

My idea to excuse the tribal enemies in the remake: See them performing in the playable intro before shit hits the fan and have Sheva mention it's for a festival they do. As for the straw huts existence, have her say that it's a historical preservation site. I have no idea if those kinds of historical preservations exist, but if we can have biological horrors, we can have preserved huts.

Also, have a run-in with an uninfected performer who's hiding out, showing that they're normal, civilized people when off the clock.

I really hope the final boss is some huge fuck-off truck that can smash through almost anything.

They've gotta be. My mom used to watch Real Housewives of Orange County, and if I argued with my friends even 1/50th as much as they do, I'd just stop being friends with them.

I really liked the US version's stage clear theme.
