Last year, my resolution was to defeat Wizpig in Diddy Kong Racing. I sank about 13 hours into the game over a span of two and a half days. After two decades of him being the one that got away, I finally got my revenge.

Whatever it takes, it's worth it.

I'm assuming we're talking about the cart Wizpig. Who did you use? I used heavy characters but noticed my acceleration with those were so poor that even one mistake basically meant it was over. I decided to go with the mouse (whatever her name is) and beat him in less than 10 tries. Never used her outside of Wizpig but for him it was way easier and a lot more forgiving.

If you're talking about the second race against him, I found that to be a lot easier than the cart race. Any character will suffice with enough practice.

oh i see you post in topic number 24. It actually has a power reserve of 80 hrs. How many hrs is your new watch? yeah they lowered the beat frequency in that hamilton so it would do 80 hrs of power reserve. So the seconds hand doesnt' sweep as smoothly as a eta 2824. First i heard of it breaking if you set it between 9 and 3, though.

Ohh okay, the 80hr power reserve movement. That's the one that was first released in the Swatch Sistem 51 and then in various Tissot watches, later into other models within the Swatch group like your Hamilton. It's a really solid movement actually. I'm not even sure this particular movement suffers from the date change problem I mentioned. My new Seiko has 70 hrs of power reserve, which is a sweet spot as it can survive through the weekend.

The dial on that is certainly unique. I can see the appeal and if it's anything like other limited edition seikos it'll hold its value well. 38mm is the perfect diameter for watches too imo, just wish the case was a bit thinner, 13mm is on the bulkier side.

Big fan of seiko watches in general, I own a couple myself, though they're the cheaper SNA/SKX models. All time favorite still has to be my Hamilton Navy Pioneer though :)

That is the one criticism I hear people talk about. I've read on reviews that it's a compromise that had to be made to ensure the water resistance. If the case was thinner, it would have to be around 100m or less, at which point it wouldn't be a Prospex (Professional Specifications) model anymore.

There are several of these that are already being sold on Chrono24 for $1200+. Seems stupid at the moment as you can still find them for close to retail. But in a couple of months it'll be hard to find them at retail

That Hamilton is easily in my top 3 Hamilton watches. Beautiful design!

Damn, I wanted to get that. How come you paid $750? Wasn't it $575?

Really nice piece, and looks much better with the leather strap.

$575 is the Seiko Presage version, this is the Prospex version. They were released together, the Presage has a vastly inferior movement, 50m water resistance (vs the 200m on this one), no screw down crown, and a gaping hole in the dial that completely ruins the star of the show (cobble stone dial!)

Edit: Nvm, you edited your answer

https://amzn.to/3EqzGXT

I mean yeah, the Hamilton Khaki King is an absolute classic and is very hard to beat at that price. It does have some downsides though, namely a low power reserve 38 hours? Could be wrong. And I think the movement in it can break if you set the day/date between 10pm and 3am. All things considered still fantastic field watch for the price though. I'm just not a fan of the aesthetic, but that's obviously subjective.

UT1999 posted...
oh my mistake, it lost like a minute a day.

Okay that's definitely too much. It's unlikely that it's magnetized, since that usually makes the movement go faster, and it's likely too cheap a watch to service.

Probably until I die, where one of my daughters will inherit it, and maybe she'll pass it down to her child. Talk about one of the most sustainable objects huh? A watch isn't just about telling time, that's what people don't get. It's about having something that looks and feels nice, and makes you happy. I get it when people like you don't like wear watches, it makes sense from a purely pragmatic point of view, but who gives a shit about pragmatism? Emotional value is what defines us, so I think we should embrace what makes us happy, rather than think of what we need and what we don't.

Your cheap automatic Seiko lost 1 second a day? That's actually amazing performance for a cheap automatic Seiko. Tolerances are within 30 seconds for those models. 1 second a day is even on the tighter side of COSC or METAS, not sure what you're expecting! My Seiko has loose tolerances (approx. 20 seconds a day), but luckily mine is only just 3 seconds fast.

Not trying to be a dick or anything, but why do people that have never been within 500 feet of a SCUBA rig buy divers? I don't know jack about watches, and I'm curious.

This confusion about a watch's depth rating is unfortunately very prevalent. But basically, a watch that's 100m water resistant, will not survive 100m underwater. The watch receives a 100m water resistance because it's pressure tested in a static position underwater. Take this as an example: If you submerged a 30m water resistance watch into a glass, it's very likely that it'll receive a very costly water damage. That's because when a watch is moving underwater, the pressure the watch receives during movement can be greater than 30m in a static position. Therefore a watch rated at 30m is NOT safe for swimming in a pool, flailing your arms under water will definitely cause damage. A shower head hitting your watch in an opening like a chronograph pusher or under the bezel can generate pressures >50m in a static position. Even 50m wouldn't be appropriate for submerging. The rule of thumb for swimming in a pool is 100m of water resistance with a screw down crown. 200m is appropriate for scuba diving, 300m is appropriate for deep scuba diving, and anything deeper than 300m is technically unnecessary for a normal consumer. Professional divers opt for diving computers nowadays anyway, so in theory even they don't need it.

So while water resistance is very important depending on your activities (again, DO NOT submerge a 50m or less water resistance watch!), at certain ratings, it does become a marketing argument. I've been to factories here in Switzerland, where they would show us devices that simulated static position depth tests for 1000+ meters, so it's not like the companies are lying, these depth ratings are legit for sure. But everything below 300m (Rolex Submariner rating) is basically not necessary!

thanks! it really is hard to find a good sized, well proportioned diver, so i don't mind the "downgrade" from the aqua terra. sometimes i don't want to wear the AT anyway, such as when i'm in shorts. it feels great, i love how thin and lightweight the watch is, it's about the same as my AT which is unique for a dive watch. surprised they were able to dial in the bracelet perfectly too, was worried about that (thought i might have to buy a 3rd party half link, which does exist)

Yeah, the bracelet can be hit or miss, unfortunately it doesn't have enough micro adjustments (should have 5). I got lucky with the size as well. I didn't know there were aftermarket half links, I'll have to check that out. A friend of mine is having trouble with the size.

This is the 140th Anniversary Ginza Boutique Limited Edition (limited to 3500 pieces). It's my first mid-range price Seiko and I am totally in love with it! Check the pics to see how it works on a leather strap too (I love the look).

This is a Seiko Prospex, I've been interested in them for a while but none of them made me pull the trigger, until this one was announced last September. It has a beautiful cobblestone (commemorating the street in front of the historical Ginza boutique) dial with offsetting blues, offering a stunning contrast. The dial changes depending on how the light hits it. Case size is super wearable at 38mm! I'm incredibly impressed with the value for money with this particular piece. It's got:

-A fully in-house 70 hour power reserve Seiko movement (made in Japan)
-A see-through caseback with a decently finished movement
-200m water resistance with a screw down crown
-Comfortable bracelet with polished chamfers for a contrast look and twin trigger clasp
-Date function
-Hacking seconds (seconds stop when crown pulls out)
-Manual wind option

A Swiss equivalent of this watch would be 2-3k+ easily! I know $750 is an amount of money most of you wouldn't part with for a watch, but I assure you this one with it's specs is a watch you could wear every day for the rest of your life without looking at any other pieces. The dial really steals the show for this piece, I see myself staring at it a lot more than I do with pieces I own that cost more than 10x as much.

@No_U_7 's recent topic gave me the idea to post my most recent watch purchase to CE.

Lmao holy shit at the responses itt. Congrats for finally getting it! It's a fantastic watch, especially the blue version that you got, the gilt version doesn't do anything for me. People making fun of you for spending "so much" money don't know anything about value retention/value increase with these watches.

It's definitely one level down from the Aqua Terra (msrp suggests this too of course), and it does show, the Aqua Terra looks more refined, has better case, dial, hands, indexes finishing, waaay better movement finishing, METAS certification and more magnetic resistance. The Tudor movement is great too - robust and functional, but it's actually quite ugly imo (thank God for the solid caseback lol).

How does it feel on the wrist? Lugs aren't overhanging on the pic you showed so the 39mm size looks decent!
