Exactly. Blockchain can't and won't solve that and so your grand vision is not practical.

You're only bringing up chainlink because you have money in that bullshit.

Robinhood demonstrated the issue of collateral requirements. Such agreements would still be in place on blockchain and Robinhood would still have to disable the buy button if they couldn't meet those requirements on the smart contract.

Regardless, if you think it was some huge conspiracy by the banks, why do you think they would give up their power in favor of blockchain? By the way, banks already provide undercollateralized loans. Do you know what kind of people can't get those? People with a terrible credit score. You think if they go to some blockchain it'll suddenly work out great?

I have money in link because I believe in the project. And quite frankly at this point it's a done deal, if a blockchain project wants to be worth a damn, they need to use Chainlink. It's the internet of blockchains after all.

They don't have a choice, as this is exactly what's going on now, they're scrambling to come up with financial products to interact with DeFi so as not to fall behind. And there's a good deal of bureaucracy that prevents peeps with good credit scores from getting loans. And mind you, as a rebuttal to Robinhood, the BTC was in a freefall after Elon's and China's FUD, Coinbase and the other big exchanges halted all trades. You know what didn't halt trades? Uniswap, a decentralized exchange. People will be able to read the contracts (and yes, I can read solidity too) and audit to see if they have trigger buttons that they can pull at their own convenience.

How? You've yet to explain this. You can't even tell me key points of that video you posted.

All it'd take is a flick of a pen (guided by the lobbying dollars of the banks) and all crypto would get absolutely annihilated. You'd have to be delusional to think any of this is a real threat to the banks. The BTC freefall was a different issue from gamestop, but you point out that the exchanges halted all trades. These centralizing players are actually a big reason for why the value of bitcoin has been pumped up so much. Nobody actually gives a shit about the decentralized nature of crypto beyond avoiding regulations.

Have you ever heard of the oracle problem? The basic gist is this: blockchains are built for security as priority first and foremost, any data you see on the blockchain, you can be sure it has been verified to be truthful. But what happens when you onboard data to the blockchain? How do you know it is valid? This is what an oracle is for. An oracle relays data to and from the blockchain, but this poses another problem. How can we be sure the data the oracle relays is reliable and the oracle is tamper-free? You could have a centralized oracle that's trustworthy or reputable, but then you have a central point of failure. Chainlink takes this a step further to create the tools so anyone can design a network of decentralized oracles that will verify and secure data to and from blockchains. This is why Chainlink is considered the WWW/HTTPS/Internet of blockchains. They onboard data and connect blockchains to the outside world and even other blockchains.

This is one of the 4 key problems Vitalik Buterin outlined in an essay that Ethereum faced back into 2016. Don't recall all of the others (more than likely scaling was one of them), but one of them that Chainlink solves, was also the issue that it's impossible to generate non-predictable random numbers on the blockchain. The fact that everything is transparent, you could look at a contract, copypaste the algorithm they use on a different contract to trigger on until you get the answer you want to trigger on the original contract. Miners have even more power since they can pick and choose what transactions to verify and add to the block and a lot of times, developers would try to generate random numbers of the blockhash or a timestamp.

Honestly, I followed the conversation on this but it didn't "click", how important having an equivalent Math.random() on the blockchain, until I tried this myself and broke a contract. What Chainlink did is build functionality to generate random numbers in the oracle network to onboard to blockchains, Chainlink VRF, verifiable randomness function. It's a standard now if you're developing in solidity to use this if you want randomness. And for a quick reason as why you would want this on the blockchain, this guy has a quick story.

Just watch the first 2 minutes. Long story short McDonalds' monopoly sweepstakes games lasted for years and was riddled with fraud. Had this been on the blockchain, there would be more transparency on the overall results, the winners, and the odds.
