The details on that whole situation are so sketchy. The DA charged him with the rape even though it was past the statute of limitations, something the DA should have known. So the case obviously gets dismissed and all off a sudden the DA then charges him with conspiracy to commit murder and torture, something he was never charged with in the first place. It literally just looks like since they couldn't get him on rape they just made something else up to get him on that instead.

He got charged for torture because he, and his accomplice tied the girl up, pistol whipped her, and took turns sodomizing her. If that isn't torture, what is it? He got 7 years for that. Then he got 27 additional years when he killed someone in prison.

problem is that they aren't given the opportunities needed to ever become visible

at the risk of blowing your mind and shattering everything you thought you knew about the world, a ton of asians are "native" to the west, e.g. the states, canada, the uk, australia, etc.

they were born and raised there, speak english as their mother tongue, and the west is the land and culture they know

Question. Are you even Asian? I'm Korean, and lived in Korea on, and off over the years. And this is what people think over there. And this may blow YOUR mind, but people over there thought the Asian actors living in the US were all ugly compared to ones in their country, and would never make it as a top actor, or actresses there. I'm sorry that the brutal truth of the harsh views of the entertainment world that's based mainly on looks, more so in Korea, Japan, and even China, must hurt you very much. In Korea, companies hire women, and men more so on their looks than their talent. If she was overweight, and there's a pretty slim girl auditioning for a News anchor next to her, bam, she's done. Of course this would cause a big fuss in the US, but in Korea, it's just another day, and nobody cares. Here's another thing to blow your mind. See all the girls on tv? Blackpink and the likes? 99% of them had some form of plastic surgery done.

Also, look at your topic title. Is John Cho the best they could find? Even you are criticizing the look of Asian American actors, lol. Deny that all you want.

It's highly unlikely he's the best they COULD find, but the reality is that they didn't really look. Most of Hollywood is built on image & connections, meaning there's almost definitely someone who could have been better, but doesn't have the clout, connections, or visibility to be considered.

How many well known Asian American actors are there that has some name value, and can fit the image of Spike?

Robin Shou? Daniel Dae Kim? Steven Yuen? Bolo Yeung? ..... Bobby Lee?

Funny how Spike "should" be Asian when he was racially ambiguous in the show, when Faye was confirmed Asian and she's played by a Latina woman here. And Jet was white, but he's black here. This show doesn't give a fuck about being racially accurate to the source material.

There aren't many good looking Asian actors and actresses living in the US, so the choices are limited, I'm sorry, but that's the truth. The best ones are all in their native countries, and most cannot speak English fluently. I always wanted Takeshi Kaneshiro to play Spike, but too late now. He ain't doing that shit.
