It's an easy subject, and being a teacher would beat a dead end entry-level job.

Easy is subjective. The upper division classes need critical thinking skills and interpretation. A BA won't get you much unless you get an education degree to teach elementary school. You could get into archiving or a library but there's a specific MA for that. You'd need at least a master's to teach at a community college but you'd be an adjunct who would probably never get tenured while getting shitty summer semesters.

The field is dying and for practical purposes, I'd advise against it. Most of the time a BA is used as a stepping stone for a letters based graduate degree like law.
