I've talked about this with some people at work and they didn't even notice things changing until I pointed it out. Hell, we were getting raises at a rapid rate for the first time ever this year and they still didn't notice. So many things are coming together which is changing how Employers have to do things drastically. You can rattle off so many things. COVID is the big one of course. Companies now are so desperate that they are forced to pay more and more just do get the employees they need. This just isn't an increase in minimum wage. This is across the board. Working from home is becoming the norm because of COVID which was hardly a thing before. This is important because this removes the geographical limit that has been traditionally placed on most jobs. There is also a ton of Unions being established to fight against abusive companies. Work place cultures/conditions, this really stands out in the gaming community, are being exposed and forced to change. Benefits are starting to increase to compete with other companies. Travel jobs are becoming more and more popular which tends to pay much more. This forces companies that don't offer that to compete with that as well. Also, the Baby Boomer era is retiring in droves which has also increased job demand. That is a big deal also. I'm sure there is much more I'm not thinking about right now but all of this is happening at once. Think about how much has changed within the last 5 years alone. The workforce might look completely different in how companies operate 5 years from now. Hopefully this will be all for the better and it looks like that will be the case based on what we've seen so far. EDIT: Also, the internet was a massive part of this.
