I have a pair of Billboard brand headphones that do the trick. You are never going to get a perfect book to movie ratio unless either the book is written for that purpose (which would make it more of a screenplay, really) or if the movie captures every detail, making it like 9 hours long. Neither are practical and compromises must be made. It doesn't bother me if it's done right, like in The Watchmen.
