I'm honestly a little butthurt that I just wanted to adhere to the rules and have fun with some silly nominations and some serious niche nominations, and two randos (junk and mnk, who I don't know) are for some reason crucifying my choice and claiming I'm bullying for it?

The jab at comic book fans was largely due to stuff like their tendency to complain about absolutely everything.

I managed a comic book store for several years, and my clientele was nothing like this.

Funny, because as a comic book fan, I think people who think they've experienced a video game by watching a Let's Play of it and think they are participating in the critical dialogue around a film because they watched a guy with a green screen in their mom's basement rant about it are the worst.

Another thrilling individual to participate in my campaign, I know that he has a very, very busy life, but the fact that he carves a little time out every week to play our silly game means such a great deal to me. Also, MI has the most recognizable voice. If I ever played "Name That Tune" with user's saying sentences, I would identify MI after a single word, every time. MI loses points for giving Jacob far too many presents this year. That boy is going to grow up and be Scrooge McDuck.

Skill, Starfox was one of my favorite users during the Disney Gauntlet years, and he was really, truly a fascinating person. Hilarious, down-to-Earth, goofy in his own way... starfox could have made a play for the perfect 100/100 if he still visited the board from time to time.

Snake used to be the worst user of 2015, but now, he's the worst user of 2021, and that shows growth. Growth in terms of age, I suppose. In all reality, Snake is another user who is passionate and cares about things. It's, once again, a far too rare trait in Board 8ers who often seem to be happy to coast along without anything really defining them. Snake, on the other hand, seems like someone who loves to be alive, to see the next thing, to look over the next hill. His positivity is infectious, and although we rarely associate anymore, when we did, I think he enhanced the board experience in a way most other's never will.

I really only know KCF from afar, but he seems to be a generous person and a passionate gamer. Those are the best qualities to have on the board, and I think he contributes in a tremendous way. The keys he throws out for games alone really demonstrates an almost saintly quality. It's an amazing idea, one that I really would like to copy someday for the board myself. And the Game of the Month club I participated in briefly was an awesome, awesome concept. Truly a top-tier user, only weighed down by me not interacting with him too often.

Scare is another excellent participant in my campaign, and as the last two years have progressed, I've become privileged to count him as friend, and hopefully the same applies for me to him. Scare is the type of guy who cares about things, and I've found that on the internet, that's a rare gift to have. We share a lot of activities together now, and I find that our personality's just jibe very well, and I'm not ever at a loss for topics to chat about with him, or games to play, or whatever the case may be. Sure, he may throw some Scareshit my way from time to time, but that's the beauty of Scare. You never know what you're going to get. It's exciting.

If only he was willing to be put upon more often, this would be a perfect score.

Johnbobb: 90/100

A top tier user with a great sense of humor, Johnbobb has dealt with a lot of adversity (as shared with the board), and I'm proud of his perseverance in the face of that. I also am privileged to host him in my weekly RPG, and I'm grateful for his presence there as well. In fact, Johnbobb really is excellent at all things except realizing that A) mutants are menaces and deserve to be treated as such and B) Kirby is a dum pink ball. If only this man could get himself in gear, he would be flirting with destiny at the tippity-top, the apex of what is modern Board 8. A true champion's champion... but, like Achilles, his flaws drag him down, down... down to the bitter depths of 90/100.

It's a damn good show. And the show is entirely about how good of a wife she is. Which is very. She is, in some sense, the best - and only wife - on this list. And that makes her the Waifu with most-u.

Covid accelerated the trends. And you can add Roma into that list as well. I would think that the Irishman is a little different in that you're buying Scorsese, which is similar to the IP grab that's happening across the various platforms.

I actually would like you to go on and on here, because I don't see how a movie doing really well shows that theatres are dead. I think it shows "if you build it they will come" if anything.

And I'm sorry but the massive majority of the public stopped caring about covid a long time ago. The media and the terminally online social media addicts are the only ones who still care.

Spider-Man doing well doesn't demonstrate that movie theaters as a whole are doing well. Ticket sales overall are indicative of the movie industry propping up theaters. For example, no one looks at the Super Bowl and says, "Well, TV ratings are back, baby!" each year. They aren't. They never will be. The constant shift away from cable and network viewing doesn't take a vacation because the Super Bowl pumps in tens of millions of viewers. The same is true of Spider-Man, Avengers, etc. They are the Super Bowl of movie theaters - they exist outside of the actual general viewing figures because they are event and appointment viewing. What is of concern is the drastic drop in Top Ten figures this year, the drastic drop in 100 million dollar movies, the drastic drop in 50 million dollar movies. These are, for lack of a better word, the midcarders that fill out the box office. A healthy box office year can pump out over 60 $50m films. This year is a tiny fraction of that at the domestic box office - what this tells us is that appointment viewing is the ONLY way to get butts in seats, outside of Mick Foley winning the title.

The box office is losing the midrange film. The movies that prop up the artistic or niche films, the movies that promoted what little creativity that studios were willing to trust. As the race in streaming continues to aim towards talent glom and IP banking, we're witnessing less and less gambling for new properties - especially so with big budgets. And that gambling was what would create box office surprises that made it profitable to show movies in the first place. Instead of movie regulars - the subset of people who would go on a weekend just because - you are seeing less and less risk in a public space, and more in the streaming space. But when you spend more time on a streaming service, you're doing the creators a disservice because, suddenly, these really high-priced assets that may be amazing are actually not as profitable. If I increase my viewing habits on Netflix from 20 hours a month to 60 hours a month, I'm still paying the same price. And Netflix then realizes it can pump out cheap crap, make more profit, and blow less on the overhead of a project. And thus we get the three-season shows that end before they get where they're going.

Spider-Man becoming a Super Bowl of the film industry is a dangerous harbinger of how difficult it will be to make bank without a "sure thing" in theaters.
