Yep I grew up around that. I lived in dirt track country. Lots of local racing families. Some of those folks were mighty into it. Dad didn't really buy stuff or support any particular racers. He just liked the spectacle mainly. He stopped watching it like 15 years ago said it lost its outlaw edge.

My father loved NASCAR.

Growing up. We had a ton of at home VHS tapes. My family was a really early adopter of satellite TV in the 80. So we had HBO and junk like that. The family recorded movies like crazy.

Dad would record wrecks. But he would just grab the nearest tape. So you would be sitting there watching Goonies and bam, Bobby Alison into the wall at Charlotte. Then back to the movie seconds later. We still laugh about this as a family.

I think Blue Oyster Cult really gets shafted. Yes everybody loves Don't Fear the Reaper. Which is fair, but their catalog is great and Dharma is an amazing guitarist. People really should give their expanded catalog a listen.

I had an essay test in a world history course. I had to show.

The professor had this thing where you got to write your thoughts about the questions, whether you thought they were fair, and how you think you did.

I remember writing something like. I am sick. I am hungover. I am just glad I showed up. Now, I had done the reading for the course so I wasn't boned from the start. But my answers were not great.

Prof gave me a B. And wrote something back like yeah I could tell. Thanks for showing up and trying. I think he did me a solid. Got an A in the course at the end.

Ended up drinking with that prof at a bar with a few others a year later. I was technically underage at the time too!

I have passed out drinking precisely once. In 2004 at a wild party. It is a long story but I ended up at class the next morning with vomit on my shirt because I was in bad shape and I had left straight from the party venue in the morning to my class.

I had a chance to see Rush with Dream Theater like around 2010. Me and a buddy had tickets but his grandma died that day and the plans got cancelled.

I never got to see Rush or Dream Theater.

Around 4 to 6 beers is my max nowadays.

At my peak Lush. College days in a fraternity.

I weighed like 146 pounds. What I considered adequately drunk was around a six pack. I would routinely drink around 10 beers on a drinking night. I would usually have a shot or two of liquor in there too.

I weigh almost 80 pounds more now and I can't imagine drinking 10 or more beers without being a mess. I was also in undergrad almost 20 years ago. That plays a role too lol.

Tolerance is a hell of a drug.

Note. Adequately drunk is a tern of art. It is well past safe driving. I know it when I reach it.

Things can get dangerous in the cubicle farm or the conference room.

Work got cancelled due to snow. Today is a good day.

Sometimes it is the right position to take against people making bad faith arguments. These sorts just want to wear you out because no amount of evidence matters. They already know the evidence but choose to play dumb to get under your skin.

Some are worse though. No amount of evidence can change their minds no matter what you present. These sorts are irrational but still love to waste your time by asking for proof.

I think the latter is far less confrontational and shows a degree of self awareness. It is significantly less socially deft than thr former.

Therefore, if the goal is to show Sqaull as antisocial and tonedeaf, the former statement is much better expression.

I haven't used guides or anything. I am on some boss with Pirates. Thr areas level is at my level but everything is so hard to kill.

I have the apothecary guy, the merchant girl, the hunter girl, and the warrior guy as my main party.

I got horribly stuck at around level 30. All the battles started taking forever. I was enjoying it up until that point but then I stopped.

I was staying with my parents last week. They have 1.5 mb/s DSL. Same speed it was a decade ago. No cell service either!

That sort of thing is super annoying. But that's America's odd infrastructure. A mere 5 miles away and everything is virutally modern. Cell and normal internet. Not like fiber speeds but decent internet and fast wireless.

My hot-take is suburbs seem like the worst. Carbon copy developments with houses too big for their yards. HOAs and weird community dynamics. You don't get the cosmopolitan perks of living in the city or the perks of rural/small town life. The only plus I see is you own the house and you're on real-estate sales ladder.

I was a teen in the late 90s and early 2000s. So much of the youth culture was about the ennui of the suburbs and kids coping with it. It always seemed sort of lame to me. That's my bias though so I don't think preferring the suburbs is inherently wrong. I just have a hard time seeing the upsides I guess.

I prefer my provincial experiences to the big city. I've lived in both too. I'm in my thirties. I'm a professional. I've lived in the middle of nowhere and in Northern VA in the capital sprawl. I'm from the country, and I hated it at many points. Yet, I've really come to appreciate after a few years in a mega city. I will move back to the country eventually I think.

Rural life has its own set of headaches much like living the city. Yet my rural life I could get peace and quite around the house. I could do what I wanted on the property and so on. Traffic had a different set of annoyances but it wasn't screaming morons on a the six lane. It was following old people to town or hitting a deer.

I recognize the economic and cultural limitations of the rural life. It's a great gig if you have one of the few decent or high paying jobs though. You can bank money and easily travel to cities or hop a plane ticket with the cash you save to large destinations.

My biggest critique of rural life is it can be tough to find companionship or camaraderie if your different. Not always a great place to be if you're young either since rural areas skew older.

Yet, I find city life grinding. No peace. Crush of people always and everywhere. Cars and traffic, asinine cost of living. I honest see the appeal though. Cultural vivacity and high-culture available with ease. Yet, the cost of everything drags is annoying.

If feel like the ideal is 20 or 30 minutes away from a mid-size city where costs are still reasonable but the homestead is out in the hills or a real small town.

That's my take though. Your opinions may vary and I respect them because they're not wrong. Unless your view is the country offers nothing of value.

The rocket launch battle is awesome

I got the game for Christmas in 88. We had gone Christmas shopping one day. I got one of those super balls from a coin capsule machine. I got it back to the house and was hucking it around the parlor. It bounced into the shopping bags. I went to fish it out and found my copy of SMBII. I yelled about it -- I was like 4 at the time. My mom and dad run into the room. My dad got mad I found it. Not at me, but mad about it being found.

Mom thought it was awesome because she could start playing it sooner. So it became my early Christmas present that year. It was awesome! I'll always have great memories of it.

My mom is a whiz at the slot machine.

It's my favorite on the NES.

I liked its surreal nature and open ended levels. The ending theme is one of my favorite video game tunes too. My mom learned to play it on piano by ear. She loved the game when she was younger.

But it's a game about a dream so it should help you sleep imo.

Smaller library of music but I prefer it considerably. I am not a huge fan of thrash and I like the swagger of Guns. I also like the breadth of their music with instrumentation.

Extra point kicking is a very specialized skill. They are only gimmies at the pro level -- not so much now they moved them back.

A lot of high schools go for two a lot because of unreliable kicking. But almost any high school basketball team is going to have free throw shooters in the 70 and 80 percents.
