One of my relatives is malding on facebook about this. Said she should have acted like a Vietnam prisoner of war, I shit you not.

Edit: I can't resist. Here, read this shit. Dude's copium is out of control:

Feeling bad and sorry for Kim Potter. A vicious violent thug just ruined her life. I wish the best for Kim Potter. Well, I disagree with jury verdict but I guess we are going to have accept it. It's unlikely she will win on appeal. She did appear to get a fair trial and the jury was sequestered. I still believe was a tragic mistake. As Wright is concerned, he's already got his Karma. I guess the jury didn't want to see their town burn again. It's very interesting but if you listen to the verdict and most people missed it, but Kim Potter was actually found Guilty 2 DAYS AGO on 12/21/2021. after about 6 to 7 hours of deliberation of 2nd Degree Man. It took all that extra time to find Potter guilty of 1st Degree Man on 12/23/2021.
.
This sounds a bit crazy but this what Kim Potter should have done during her final days of freedom. Being found guilty by jury verdict is a very humiliating experience and very satisfying to the other side. However, there may be a very legal way to prevent it other than fleeing (Jumping Bail). Kim Potter should have had someone break both of her legs and arms requiring her to be placed in a full body cast. They could have contrived some reason that she fell from her attic or something. By Kim Potter being in a full body cast, they would have unable to do several things. First, Kim Potter would be unable to be handcuffed in the courtroom and lead away. Second, Potter would not have gone to jail but would have been sent to a medical facility. And third, they couldn't take her mug to plaster all over. It would be a risky move but would have had a lot of benefits. Now people say that sounds totally crazy, but it really isn't if you consider the Late James Stockdale, a Vietnam POW.... "When told by his captors that he was to be paraded in public, Stockdale slit his scalp with a razor to purposely disfigure himself so that his captors could not use him as propaganda. When they covered his head with a hat, he beat himself with a stool until his face was swollen beyond recognition."A man with incredible intestional fortitude.

I side-stepped the weird Vietnam POW rant and responded with:
Her inability to responsibly do her job just ruined her life.
I dunno, I just think it's odd how often conservatives will scream about personal responsibility when it comes to systemic problems but a cop can be so mind-boggingly incompetent that they can confuse their firearm with their taser and that's somehow the fault of the person they killed, lol.

I also think the mechanics of it are horrendously outdated in 2021 since there are so many better games that do what Zelda 2 tried to do in the late 80's.
That applies to almost every NES game, and doubly so for Zelda 1.

I maintain my opinion that the worst thing about Zelda 2 by far is the game over system, which should put you at the entrances to any given area rather than back to the starting point of the game. It is odd that the game's designers even seemed semi-cognizant of that as that's how the final dungeon works.

Either way, an infinite life cheat is all a beginner needs to find the game far more playable. It's not a perfect solution, but... *shrug*

Personally, I think the line should be drawn based on fetal viability (medical necessity aside, obviously). Get to a gestational age where the kid has a 60-70% chance of surviving if they were to be delivered normally, and after that, anyone that wants an abortion needs to be prematurely induced instead (which should be delayed by a few weeks from that point to improve the odds a bit) and deliver the baby for adoption. I think of abortion as being morally comparable to taking somebody off of life support, and I consider it immoral to take somebody off of life support without further care if there's a solid chance that that care could ensure their survival.
This doesn't work. Late-term abortions are done primarily due to something going wrong with the pregnancy. The reason the pregnancy got that far was because the pregnancy was wanted. Your example fails to consider the safety of the person being forced by the State to carry the pregnancy to term. Pregnancy complications are already a leading cause of death for women (between ages 20-44, obviously). This is exactly why people get pissed off over this; people act like it's either a given that the health/life of the person being forced to give birth goes without saying. Well, it doesn't, and it speaks to how little people value their lives when they are treated as an afterthought, resulting in cases like this:
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-20321741
.
You can keep adding caveat after caveat, but all you're ultimately accomplishing is turning miscarriages (which 1/5 of all pregnancies end in) into suspected crimes, and ensuring that people who NEED a procedure done will be denied it due to the moral grandstanding of whichever physician they were unlucky enough to end up stuck with, because this is NOT going to stop abortions of any kind. Blanket limitations on procedures will get people killed. And doctors and nurses and surgeons should not be able to deny people abortions based on their own personal morals anymore than they should be able to deny people hysterectomies, tubal ligation, or birth control. It's not their health and life at stake, it's not their call to make.

I'll steal from your next post. Bullshit. I just mentioned the statistics on it. Red flags for suicidal people that result in gun confiscation = fewer suicides. Period. There's no arguing this on your part. No one cares if the facts conflict with your feelings on this topic.
But by all means continue to stare reality in the face screaming "NUH UHHH"

There's no reason to include this than some self righteous "suicide is a sin" or other similar bullshit.

I guarantee you that I know more about the topic of suicide and assisted suicide than 90% of the people on this board considering multiple people in family have both successfully and unsuccessfully done both, and I am including myself in that number.

I support suicide in that I don't believe it should be penalized and I support physician assisted suicides in that I believe there should be a supportive and accessible process for people to go through.

That does NOT mean that society shouldn't have systems in place to prevent impulsive, circumstantially-motivated suicide attempts where possible. Suicide red flag laws have been PROVEN to work, and no, you don't have to be a theocratic finger-wagging dipshit to admit reality, and you don't have to shit on suicidal people in order to justify putting prevention systems in place.

You don't know jack shit about this topic or about me. Fuck off.

What's poorly written about this?
Seems pretty clear the founders of this country wanted everyone to have a gun without restrictions. No other interpretations are possible.

I didn't say it was unclear. I said it was poorly written. The original version of the 2nd amendment was better. I'm pretty sure the 2nd amendment concept was taken from documents of some of the colonies/states at the time.
For example:
Constitution of Virginia
Article I. Bill of Rights
Section 13. Militia; standing armies; military subordinate to civil power
That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.

Yeah, that. That's just flat-out better-written than the 2nd amendment of the US Constitution.

She could go to the courts, tell them any bullshit story, push it all through the system, and at no point will you be informed anything is happening. To make it worse, most Red Flag laws come with little to no punishment for filing false claims.
I want concrete statistics on this hypothetical of yours, otherwise you're just fearmongering. Red flag laws have been proven to reduce suicide rates. We shouldn't let proven violent people near guns for the same reason we shouldn't let pedophiles near children. I'm sorry that you're so concerned about wife beaters having their guns temporarily confiscated.

I don't have a problem with guns in and of themselves, but the casual and careless use of guns and their glorification is really unhealthy and not something I want anything to do with.
.
They're for survival and safety, and if you don't center that around your relationship to and treatment of guns (you being either an individual or a society at large). The should not be treated as ego toys.
.
I consider myself a supporter of the (frankly very poorly written) 2nd amendment, but it's when society fails to restrict access to people with violent criminal records or implement red flag laws to reduce suicide rates that you lose me completely. There's no excuse for letting firearms easily slip into the hands of domestic abusers, hormonal children, or people with a history of suicidal ideation or suicide attempts. And people can kick and scream all they want about "they'll get guns anyway," the statistics don't agree with you. Sorry.

There's a reason why men occupy a wider spread of performance variation; because men are meant to be expendable. The weak are meant to die off which means more higher performing men breed and the average for the species goes up.

Kyuubi4269 posted...
If you were remotely aware of how evolution works, you'd know all behaviours mutate
... Oh god the irony. Where do I begin?

Evolution works off of natural selection- the generational mutations that build up after exposure to cross-generational environmental pressures (we're not talking 1-2 generations, but dozens, if not hundreds or even thousands). It is also not about "weak die strong live" nonsense; it's about suitability to specific environments (aka, the sun beat down on your species in different places in different amounts for thousands of years, so the melanin content between populations changed as populations slowly adapted to it via natural selection).

How well-adapted to a given environment a SPECIES is, not an individual, is the subject of evolution. But putting that aside just for a second? A "weak" individual can easily survive while a "strong" individual can easily die if the weaker one is better suited to the environment, so your "weak die strong live" bullshit doesn't even apply to evolution in general, but your argument gets even worse than that.

Right now the environmental pressures on our species are inconsistent and heavily mitigated, and this is doubly true simply because human generations are very lengthy. Once a species reaches a point where they can significantly manipulate the pressures that would cause natural selection to be a noticeable factor in the spread of genetic variation (agriculture to reduce the pressure of starvation, weapons to reduce predation and starvation, shelter to reduce weather impact, health care to reduce disease impact, etc, etc) all of that goes out the window really fucking fast. As soon as humans began making tools (and civilizations) in earnest? As soon as we could manipulate our environment in our turn?

TL:DR? You're engaging in pseudoscience trying to apply evolution to what you're talking about. You're just wrong. Your fixation on the strong vs the weak is pseudo-scientific bullshit that eugenicists use to justify genocide, especially against people with disabilities (many countries still have eugenics laws based on this pseudoscience to this day targeting disabled people). Evolution deals with populations over generations, not individuals, and no, targeting parts of the population for culling does not facilitate evolution (points at my response to fam_fam below).

Cherry on the top is you running around pretending you actually have a firm grasp on the concept. What a great example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Fam_Fam posted...
this is suggesting that whether you die or survive in war is substantially impacted by individual fitness level, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. genetic/physical differences do not have a significant impact in terms of who dies/lives in modern warfare. If you get placed in a battlefield and get shot by a machine gun/blown up, you will die either way.
It is because we aren't talking about sustained environmental pressures across generations causing those best suited to an environment to survive.

A human's "environment" isn't being on a battlefield in the midst of bullet hail. You can take a perfectly strong individual specimen out of their natural environment and place them in a new one with pressures they did not evolve to deal with and surprise surprise, they will die. And so will pretty much every single other member of the same species you repeat this experiment on.

Turns out that humans didn't evolve over thousands of years to survive taking grenade and bullet rain, and surviving or dying from that has nothing to do with strength or adaptability- just luck.
