You know, there's never really been one single explanation to why the characters are the way they are. This goes double for Dragonball GT. I mean, there's just no consistency in the reasonings behind their decisions. Sometimes a character becomes a Saiyan because he had a fight with his father, sometimes they are descendants of Saiyans. Sometimes the reason is something even more ridiculous. Take Gohan for example. His transformation into a Saiyan was not even his decision, the reason he became a Saiyan was that he was just born, because that's how things are done in Dragonball Z (if a character doesn't have an explanation, then it must be just random chance, which means a character will always be a Saiyan, no matter how many times Goku gets hit in the head with a rock.) But even Gohan's transformation had a really lame explanation, "the Saiyans used to live in Japan before they traveled to a different land called" blah blah blah (the Earth in Dragonball).
