As much as I love the game (it's by far my most played and in my top 5 favorites), and as much as I would enjoy playing online with a fresh start again (I switched to SP after playing online for years), the improvements don't interest me *that* much.

The graphics are nice, but not game-changing (except maybe in a bad way by obscuring enemies and drops). The shared stash is useful, but doesn't offer much space (to the point I'd rather have the old system), and is available in a better form offline through mods.

The biggest downside is that it's a game that demands a lot of time and will prevent me playing other games. I've played enough D2 for 10 lifetimes.

I'll get Metroid Dread instead.

Yeah, I can't really criticize them too much since there were a lot of things from before I started using computers (the mid 90s) that I didn't have a clue about. I had no idea what a "newsgroup" was, how to use the command line (although I learned later for programming), etc. That's not counting other common technologies from just before my time.

If you grow up not needing to know something (e.g. not needing to manage a file system if you just use smartphone apps), it's not a great surprise that you'll get confused when presented with a situation that requires said knowledge.

For people doing a computing course or similar, I would still expect them to be a bit more computer literate than that though.

A German company created the BioNTech vaccine (plus many of the European doses are made in Europe), if you want to go down the stupid vaccine nationalism route. There's also Oxford/AstraZeneca, which has been used a lot in poorer countries (it's sold at cost and much cheaper and easier to store than other vaccines).

Metroid Prime for me, but I am a big Metroid(vania) fan. People were skeptical initially, but it translated the formula from Super Metroid brilliantly, added a few twists of its own, created an amazing atmosphere (helped by great graphics/music/sound), and so on. The Phazon Mines and key hunt brought the game down, but only a little IMO.

The console has some of the best games ever, despite having a relatively small library, so there are a few contenders, including those listed. To add another, REmake was pretty genre-defining.

I may not get all details right, but this is my understanding:

Shin Megami Tensei (sometimes the franchise is collectively called Megami Tensei / Mega-Ten) is (primarily) a series of JRPG dungeon crawlers. There are a number of spin-offs, including Persona (a more linear, story-focused JRPG series, where you live the day-to-day life of a teenager while "saving the world"), Digital Devil Saga (more traditional JRPGs), Devil Survivor (strategy RPGs like Fire Emblem), etc.

Persona itself has fighting and rhythm game spin-offs.

If you're not into JRPGs or anime, it'll probably seem like "weeb trash". Well, Persona and its spin-offs anyway. The others, not so much.

So why would the metric that is the most convincing one not be all over the place?

It is all over the place (just not necessarily on the fringe blogs these people frequent, unless they're "debunking" it), but Trump supporters refuse to believe it and think it's a lie to get them to take the "poison" (vaccine).

Someone should do the two buttons meme with:

  • Button 1: The libs want us to take the vaccine because it's poison and it will kill us (plus the virus is a hoax / just like a cold)
  • Button 2: The libs don't want us to take the vaccine because it's very effective against the deadly virus and not taking it will cause more of us to die

Sometimes its not about "being long". It's more about replayability, which compared to most indy Metroivanias, the main Metroid games have next to none.

This is coming from someone that has over 500 hours between Dead Cells and Blasphemous though.

I personally enjoy playing around with sequence breaks (in Super, Prime and Zero Mission mainly), so I hope there are a few of those in there. Plus, if it's a high quality, fun, well paced game, that'll add some natural replayability. Fusion doesn't seem like it would be replayable, but I must have replayed it at least 5 times.

It's not great, but it's something.

You know what would be really awesome though? An inbuilt randomizer!

At most you could argue the jump between generations was biggest (although probably not even that), but that graphics had peaked? Nah.

What I will say is that there were some gorgeous 2D / sprite-based games back then: https://onezero.medium.com/the-forgotten-pixel-art-masterpieces-of-the-playstation-1-era-8b453dfe00bf

I think modern equivalents often fail to capture that quality of art style / animation (and that matters potentially more than raw graphical power or the latest technical innovations).

I tend to like games that are somewhere in the middle (Deus Ex, Metroidvanias generally, some RPGs, even Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil (originals), etc.) the best.

If that's a cop-out, then probably linear games when comparing the two extremes.

There are a handful of open world games that are some of my favorites (Morrowind, New Vegas, San Andreas), but the rest mostly bore me in large doses. On the other hand, there are tons of linear games where the linearity does not bother me in the slightest and that I could play constantly (Mario, Mega Man, various action games, shooters, other platformers, etc.).

I'm not sure what to do. I'm quite content with single player in the original game (which I started playing exclusively about 10 years ago), but it would be nice to play on Battle.net again, with everyone starting afresh. The relative lack of stash space is a bit concerning for a hoarder like myself. At least you could make unlimited accounts in the original.

I also don't want to get addicted and play it to the exclusion of all other games, with the likes of Metroid Dread coming soon. I've already played it for thousands of hours over the years and would probably rather stick with new games.
TopicHow do you prefer your loot?
luigi13579
09/09/21 2:59:39 PM

It depends on the game. Randomized loot would be exhausting if it were in every game with loot in any form. I'd rather it stayed in online RPGs, roguelikes/lites or games like Diablo.

At most, other games (regular J/WRPGs) could have a hybrid system where items are mostly fixed, with some randomization (if done well), but no more than that for me (unless the game has significant elements of the games/genres mentioned in the previous paragraph).

So the answer is B (mostly).

A fucking Facebook survey? No way that could backfire...
To be included in the analysis sample, participants had to complete the questions on vaccine uptake and intent, and report a gender other than prefer to self-describe.. This exclusion was made after discovering that the majority of fill-in responses for self-described gender were political/discriminatory statements or otherwise questionable answers (e.g. Apache Helicopter or Unicorn), and that as a group, those who selected self-described gender (<1% of the sample) had a high frequency of uncommon responses (e.g., Hispanic ethnicity [41.4%], the oldest age group [23.2% 75 years] and highest education level [28.1% Doctorate]), suggesting the survey was not completed in good faith.
