I remember leaving the board a number of years ago when I realized I was trans bc it didn't seem like the kind of place where that was gonna go well (this was just after the 2016/2017 era which was maybe the low point in B8 history), and now I come back and there's a whole community.

What we need is to stop shitting on people who want to experiment with gender presentation. This is good for ALL trans people, and all cis people who are gender-nonconforming.

Gender dysphoria is an absolutely MISERABLE experience. I would not wish it on my worst enemy. But if it was safe to experiment with gender presentation and not get abuse for it, EVEN IF IT TURNED OUT TO BE A PHASE, maybe I wouldn't have had to spend decades of my life being miserable and trying to force myself to be something I couldn't until it was either transition or die.

When you say that only "people with gender dysphoria" need to be taken seriously, what you're really saying is we don't DESERVE to be taken seriously until we've met some arbitrary quota of suffering. I have no interest in demanding other people perform misery before they're afforded respect, and anybody who does doesn't support me or my community.

Yeah... I don't think I'm going to be inclined to respect any neopronouns. To me the concept seems insulting and even damaging to the trans community. Those are people who actually struggle with gender identity. Anyone that says they thinks they're actually a fairy or an elf or whatever is clearly taking the piss or in need of some guidance. If you're nonbinary that's fine too, but don't go around making things up to describe your "third way." It comes off as narcissistic and delusional, and whether intended or not could do a great deal of harm to people who are struggling for recognition.

Okay so here's the thing. Normalizing neopronouns is good for ALL trans people, even those of us who use she/her or her/him.

Deciding which kinds of pronouns are acceptable and which aren't still accepts the idea that there are outside arbiters of other people's identities. You might draw the line at neopronouns, but there's a lot of people who would draw it at singular they/them, or at any change to personal pronouns at all, and you're still fundamentally on their side. You're arguing over where the line is, but you all agree that there is a line.

But if you accept that people can choose the personal pronouns they want, that there is no line, then everybody is accepted.

Can I use she/her? Yes, people can choose what they want!
Can someone use they/them? Yes, people can choose what they want!
Can someone else use xe/hir? Yes, people can choose what they want!
Can we all change our minds later? Yes, people can choose what they want!

It means you don't get to police a community from outside that community. Outsiders can care, but they don't get to tell people inside the community that they're doing it wrong.

Your analogy is really bad because you're creating a comparison where marginalized people are likened to animals and non-marginalized people are still people.

So because you're worried you'll accidentally get a pronoun wrong and be yelled at, you're... intentionally using a pronoun wrong and setting yourself up to be yelled at? That's some real big brain thinking there.

Respect people's pronouns, period. Allow yourself to be corrected if you make a mistake. Don't get defensive, just briefly apologize, move on, and try to remember better. Nobody's looking to start a fight over pronouns except people who don't want to respect them.

If you can't be bothered to respect someone else because "but muh linguistics!", then just do not talk to them at all. Trust me, they don't want to hear from you anyway so save everybody the hassle.

Last time I tried it did, though it was pretty finicky, especially with certain games. But I have a RetroUSB AVS so I haven't bothered even trying to use it in years
