90% of the time, I find subscription services to be a borderline scam, and this is no exception. They're delivering less than what they offered on the Wii VC, for more than the cost that any reasonable person would play for the games they would actually play.

Well its an extra $30 a year which is 3 N64 games to own forever under the old VC

Thats not more than any reasonable person would pay assuming you like at least a few games

The issue is a lot of the top titles are stuck with Rare, though with Banjo-Kazooie set to make an appearance it gives hope that some of the others may return. Excluding Rare, the biggest games missing and not yet announced are Super Smash Bros. and Donkey Kong 64. After that we are into games like Ogre Battle and Harvest Moon which only have a small following.

Actually, I think The Simpsons, South Park's closest contemporary, is DECIDEDLY ANYTHING BUT THIS, at least during its golden years. The Simpsons has always had cynical takes but they're always couched in a deep level of optimism, empathy, and respect for others, which is the magic ingredient that I think South Park is sorely lacking. I don't think The Simpsons is even remotely 'enlightened centrist.'

I might challenge optimism there

Theres a very strong moral thread through classic Simpsons that doing the right thing wont make a difference, and quite possibly could make you miserable, but you should do it anyway. Even if you cant affect real change, you can still save your own soul. A sort of religious take on the categorical imperative.

I guess thats a sort of optimism about good deeds eventually being rewarded, but as an atheist I can never be at peace with that take.

This is very reminiscent of "violent video games" arguments.

You could say that South Park desensitizes young people into not caring about issues the same way you could say that violent video games desensitize young people to violence, sure.

The bad part about the violence in video games outrage was the push to ban them, not the implication that theres a connection between the media people console and their thought patterns, because there clearly is. See: governments regulating loot boxes because they foster addictive gambling behavior.
