We're talking actual psychological trauma here, it takes a lot of very specific words coupled with poor stress management/coping skills to come anywhere near the psychological trauma of experiencing violence. Words can only hurt you if you don't fight it, perhaps you don't know how, but violence hurts you every time.

I'm just saying that words can have a lot stronger, if more gradual impact overall than typical violent situations. Obviously if someone's trying to kill you, that's more traumatic than verbal abuse. If it's not life-threatening though, I think someone fucking with you mentally can do a lot more damage than getting punched or beat up.

We're not robots, we don't get to perfectly control how we feel about things.

Being an adult is about how we respond to those feelings. A child might throw things or hit someone if they're mad, an adult will talk things out or walk away.

But adults still get mad all the time. They still get emotions they didn't ask for, they just handle it far better(Usually).
