I was getting so many different items with no frame of reference regarding their importance. It was a bit overwhelming. Ended up having no money and tons of items. I stopped fairly early into the game with that being one of the reasons why. I need to get back into it one of these days. Money is excruciating for the first 10-15 levels, especially on harder modes. After you get your griffin gear early game and are comfortable with something like a headhunter/moonblade setup or equivalent with your swords, you're gonna blink and be floating 10k+ at all times. Usually happens for me around level 16 onward. Money is trivialized once you have the right decoctions, a few key enhanced oils and crafted your witcher gear. Very early game your money should only be going towards diagrams, recipes, gwent cards, and if you're brewing or crafting something at a merchant and are just missing 1-2 ingredients they're selling. --- Since only from below can one better see the heights. http://i.imgur.com/OhZgm.jpg |

The absolute best stuff to use is Witcher gear. 99.9% of the loot you find in any chest, box or "?" area is garbage plus a useful recipe for something. Finding a gray velen longsword that sells for 3 coins on the corpse of elite guardsmen is kind of a lame feeling. Swimming out into the bay and finding a chest surrounded by 6 drowners, and killing them all only to find thread, iron ingots, an enhanced oil and some sword that is 40% weaker than my level 11 witcher gear is lame. I also haven't confirmed this but I think loot scales to your level so finding some hard ass enemy that is so beyond your level they come up as "??", you kill them after 20 minutes on death march, and get a level 6 velen longsword in their guarded box is just the worst. I love TW3, I love the story and it's a game I intend to complete entirely. I have absolutely 0% interest in completing the next 25+ hours of story missions let alone new side quests that will pop up, so I uninstalled it before ever finishing C3. In each den. It was BYOB and BYOF but they had a cocktail bar inside that if you bought a cigar, you got one drink from their bar for free. You could rent out a den or even the entire place for as little as $50-$500 respectively and stay. Every Sunday for NFL they would have a private chef or two come in and whip up apps for the entire place, staff included, no extra charge.
