I really don't know what they were thinking here. I know they wanted to establish how much better the other team was, but the amount of frustration from this first match is such that it's damaging to average players opinion not the minigame period. It either ended to be less lopsided or straight up unwinnable, offering the actual ability to win and earn a reward but making it this bullahit just makes the entire system look like crap. It wouldn't be so bad other than the unskippable 8 minutes of cutscene before and during the process.

It is actually quite easy to exploit Blitzball in your favor, even the first game against the Luca Goers. Absolutely have controls on Manual because your teammates will straight up swim towards opposition on Auto, which results in either them getting blocked by 2-3 players and guaranteeing you lose the ball or someone straight up tackles you and grabs the ball.

Have someone with decent passing stats maneuver in a way where there is no opposition close by to block them and pass the ball to Tidus. Have Tidus go as close to the goalie as possible (doesn't matter if you get blocked by a player or two because Jecht Shot bypasses two of them) and use the Jecht Shot. That pretty much guarantees a goal. After that just waste time by passing the ball to a defense player at the back of your own court and have them just stand next to your goalkeeper. This pretty much guarantees you a win as long as you are ahead on goals. Also remember that Tidus can use the Jecht Shot twice in a game (once every half).

When you play Blitzball later for Wakka's Sigil, you'll see that the Luca Goers are actually a really weak team and that the biggest problem is ironically the Al Bhed Psyches (the chumps you beat off-screen without the star player of the Zanarkand Abes), mainly because their goalkeeper has absurd catching stats when your players are likely very very underleveled early on. This makes it very hard to score against them if you meet them in your first or second match.

After that though Blitzball pretty much becomes braindead easy when you have a proper team and you start levelling up. That is when you start scoring 8 goals on average against your opponents and you just play it for Wakka's overdrive and the Sigil for his ultimate weapon.

while making 3 a cloud game was understandable, there was no reason 1.5/2.5/2.8 needed to be.

When you can run games like The Witcher 3 and DOOM decently on Switch there is no excuse for even Kingdom Hearts III to be a lol Cloud game forget KH1 and 2.

These are some of the things about FF12 that bothers me so much to this day. A very good example of FF12's plot, characters and dialogue being just so head scratchingly bad. Yes Zodiac Age fixed a lot of the slow sections and the structure of the gameplay for the better but the plot is just irredeemable hot garbage that can never be fixed. So unless Square Enix decide to nuke the original game completely like how ARR did to OG FFXIV and remake FF12 from scratch, the game will remain a blight on the series and the beginning of the downward spiral for the mainline entries.

Fayt Leingod for stupidest JRPG protagonist name. Yes, it is worse than stuff of legends like Asbel, Edge and Jude Maverick, Duran chips and Benjamin.

I like how I'm the one who is the least bothered by the plot twist and yet I'm the one who's scored the game the lowest so far.

I have actually grown to appreciate the lol twist because of just how ridiculous it is. The story was a snoozefest till that point so it was not like the twist derailed a great story but rather it made a bland one more memorable than it had any right to be.

I do recommend the game to fans of action JRPGs though because the gameplay is really good. The weapon crafting and post-game had me really hooked to the game.

I don't know which Soulsborne you played that made you feel like the series has clunky combat. I can understand camera being an issue if you like to strictly fight bosses locked-on but the combat as a whole being clunky? I have played over thousands of games in my life and I personally think Dark Souls has the best methodical combat, Bloodborne has the best dodge and slash combat and Sekiro has the best combat in video games period.

Jack Garland sticks out like a sore thumb as far as stupid video game names are concerned so I do not remember hearing any of the names of the Warriors of Light.

Could have used those resources to remake the actual game or another beloved entry in the series like FFV, VI or VIII but nope "let's make an origin story about the characters that nobody asked for".

Only thing that even has me slightly interested is that if the combat turns out to be even half as good as Nioh, this could be a decent game gameplay-wise.

Good for its time but nothing special by today's standards. I do have a really soft spot for the game because it was the first Tales game I've played.

It was a parody in video game form that didn't have anything quite like it at the time. I don't know how well its aged but I still remember segments of the story to this day that I found quite humourous at that time. The toilet humour is a huge miss for me though and I never like those even when they are done well. I remember that particular song with the aforementioned toilet humour which is just really bad and I imagine I'd like it even less if I viewed that segment now.

It's not a plot hole it's how you build an invisible wall with the plot

I played Yakuza 0 in 2019 and found the main story to be great while everything else (combat, side stories, minigames) bored me to tears. What blew you away about it? Just curious because part of me wants to give Kiwami a shot.

The story, characters and the dialogue. It was like peak tv drama in video game form. While I liked the combat I admit it wasn't anything special (however do note that it is a huge step up from the rest of the series which may be a deal breaker for you).

Kiwami 1 is a much more polished version of the original but it is not anywhere near the quality of Yakuza 0. But this is where it all starts and even with its shortcomings in gameplay, the story is well worth it if you liked Yakuza 0's.

Nominate Shenmue III

So I can rant more about this debacle.

It is insane how I used to think Yakuza was a bad Shenmue/GTA wannabe hybrid when I first played the original on the PS2.

Fast forward to 2017, played Yakuza 0 (the first one I touched after the original PS2 game) and it blew me away. Thought it was a flash in the pan for the series. Didn't play another game in the series until late 2020, then played the entire series from Kiwami 1 to Yakuza: Like a Dragon and now it is one of favorite video game series of all time.

Whereas Shenmue as a series has become a completely flattened tyre because its latest entry (that took nearly two decades and literal money from its fans to even be made) Shenmue III was such a mediocre experience. The fact that it advanced the overall plot by like 5% (the game is literally 90% filler) did the series and its fans no favors. It certainly has soured my take on the series and I'm sure a lot of the fans feel the same.

As much as I love Shenmue I and II, not much really happens that advances the main plot in this one. II does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the main story and III was Yu Suzuki being an ass and not finishing the story when he finally got the opportunity to do so. Now we wait 30 years for a fourth game which Suzuki makes in a hospital bed on life support which also says... The story goes on
