I don't think I have a way to describe them other than they feel stupid to me. Don't like the style at all u: Pretty similar to Beale Street. Lyrics straddle the line between me liking them a fair bit and me feeling pandered to Prison Planet: solid, also fairly similar in overall style with vocals that I suppose are more distinctive than what you got in Beale Street Regulator: the best of the set. Like the way it feels bluesy and country the same way some Doobie Brothers and CCR songs are, an effect I feel this band kind of touches upon without fully committing to I think these are still pretty similar to the album you nommed (and wouldn't call any spacey at all). Spacegrass is a little different in a way I don't like, Regulator in a way I do. It's all solid, though still not blowing me away. It's very hard for me to generate writeups for this kind of thing. It doesn't really stand out, or do much I can point to as being noteworthy enough to talk about. That's not inherently a bad thing, don't get me wrong; conventions are conventions for a reason. It's more that it feels redundant for me to highlight what feels like "default" in some ways. I was very prepared for something like a more upbeat LSD song at the beginning of song 2, and then the vocals came on and reframed it completely. The third song is back to form. Like Sato, it inherently has its own strange kind of appeal, but it takes until the last minute, when it actually picks up, for me to get into it at all. That tends to happen a lot with very odd music like this. Without some kind of drive, some kind of unifying force, I don't have anything to grab on to. alright this is going to be one of those albums that i have to talk about every song individually because they're all so... DNA seems really inspired by Bowie. Really like the, uh, stacatto opening, chorus not as much. Remote Control also has some Bowie feels, but the more chiptuney aspects hamper my enjoyment a bit. Glitchcore isn't really my favorite, however, I do really like Frums, so parts of Alpha Waves I'm whatever on and parts I enjoy a good bit (basically I like the samples). I like Frums and cool sampled music. I don't necessarily love 80s pop music aesthetically. I like a lot of Osamu Sato. I don't like a lot of executions of glitchcore. David Bowie is pretty cool. Chiptune is pretty eh. This album is a whole goulash of influences, and the dish averages out to be pretty alright. Rating: aight/10 (pretend it's zalgoed) Favorite Song: Propaganda --- Kneel... or you will be knelt |

Phoenix fucking up and losing his badge by being too ingenuous and trusting magically-fortuitous evidence one too many times and having to orchestrate justice behind the scenes as a jaded "old" man while training his protege to be his eager naive replacement is a phenomenal concept for a sequel to me. Unfortunately, they botched the execution pretty hard... but most of the botching was in making the middle cases complete garbage, leaving the overarching story still alright. argh.... 6.5/10 --- Kneel... or you will be knelt |
