St0rmFury 08/14/21 2:14:57 AM #1	Taken from reddit: When my mom passed, the insurance company wouldnt cover the roughly $500K in bills because they claimed the hospital screwed up and put her in a coma so they should pay for everything. The hospital, instead of disputing the findings, forwarded my dad the bill. He died a year later due to a random heart attack at 60 and I still blame the hospital for contributing to a once healthy mans very fast downturn. Replying to above: Insurance never covers health problems that are caused by the hospital. The same is true for infections that you get while in hospital care. It happens to roughly 7-10% of patients and adds an average of $9k to their bill. Insurance won't cover it because it's the hospitals fault. And the hospital won't cover it because of course they won't. So not only do you have to worry about the hospital making a mistake that causes you physical harm, but you also have to pay out of pocket for them to fix their mistake.
