I'm apparently in the minority for the PW fanbase where I really don't care for most of the original trilogy's music... but that PW1 cornered theme is just classic anyway.

Strongly considered voting for Dhurke though.

Yes, but I haven't seen Episode IX for what that's worth.

Very different type of villain than the norm for operatic media, but honestly, more real? He's a petty, tamtrum-throwing loser who projects a veneer of macho confidence, but is still legitimately dangerous because of the power he holds. This is actually way closer to how villaous people behave in real life.

I've certainly heard about the Souhern Ocean before.

I do find it a bit confusing though, just because it's not really clear where it ends and other oceans begin. While there are clear points where the ocean narrows to separate the Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific from each other, there isn't anything remotely equivalent for the Southern... do they just define its border by latitude?

But it's obviously useful for oceanographers to consider it a separate entity, and I'm not gonna argue with them.

I voted for 6-2. I found that character charismatic and effective in both his trollish director persona and his wronged magician persona

3-2 is great too, not gonna find any fault in them winning.

MrSmartGuy posted...
1-2 is a bad case, and 3-2 is a top-tier case, but I honestly don't really care for [3-2 killer] and [1-2 killer] is fantabulistic.

Huh, that surprises me. 3-2's killer is sooo important to the case that I would expect anyone's opinion of the case to line up with the character. I've known a couple people who aren't so hot on 3-2 and it always comes down to being not so hot on the culprit, since they're by far the most important character in both trial days.

(On the other hand it's certainly reasonable to prefer 1-2's killer to the case... I like the 1-2 killer pretty well too, but the case has some problems.)

Voted for 3-1 but E2-1 is really great and would be better if we just consider the first case alone. Great opponent. But 3-1's role in the whole game is hard to argue with.

I guess they were going for that with 4-1 too but that character fell flat for me.

I'm the same for what it's worth. I hate most things related to the Grammaryes; he's the least annoying one but... yeah still wasn't a big fan. That said he at least stands out a bit so if he clicked with you I could see him winning this poll easily because the standards are so low.

Valant is great. Best Apollo Justice exclusive character.

This... made me actually ask myself who I think the best Apollo Justice-exclusive character is. And I ended up concluding my favourite is Plum Kitaki, who's in approximately three scenes but at least managed to be funny in them.

Yeah T&T definitely has a shortage of good, case-specific, non-killer witnesses. I like both Kudo and Bikini pretty well, though.

That said, voted for Larry, despite my comments about passing over him in AA1, because I just love his cross-examination so much; possibly the highlight of the entire game to me. I could play a whole game of Edgeworth/Larry/Franziska interacting.

On a lighter note, another great comedic moment is Phoenix pressing Powers for the first time and the dude instantly becoming terrified that he's going to turn him into the killer.

Yeah this. One of the absolute beauties of 2-4 is forcing the player to confront how Phoenix's abilities aren't necessarily the province of good (though of course having a magic magatama sure does help), and this is just another way.

Voted for Moe. West Clownadelphia born and raised, his first testimony being a giant call for help, the bad jokes, the fact that he can't work the crowd even though Trilo managed it, the crazy circus music during the final testimony. I pretty much never stop smiling throughout his time on the stand.

De Killer is better to be clear, but... De Killer being on this poll feels like cheating? He's a killer, and all the other killers are excluded from this. (Yeah, 2-4 has two killers.) De Killer rules though, agreed with everyone else. The radio animations are amazing, and obviously there's just some great moments both heavy and comic.

Voted for Cody.

Polly's a great moment and I don't begrudge the votes she's getting, but isn't really a character. Larry's also great, but honestly voting for him feels like cheating: I like Larry a lot but he's not a one-off witness, he's a defendant + significant plot player.

Cody is not only absolutely hilarious in investigations (I love his reaction when Phoenix tries to "trade" him his own card), but his testimony is the point when I realized I loved this series. Can't ever forget that.

Wendy's good too! When I replay this game I'm struck how she's actually better in this game than her other appearances; not that she isn't funny in later games (as she is here), but PW1 is where she definitely feels like less of a caricature and more of a complete character, who's allowed to be serious on occasion too.

And an honourable mention to Jake Marshall. I'm the opposite of a 1-5 fan but he was great, both for the character concept and some amazing animations.

Voted for 5-6, though I was intending to vote for 5-5. Happy with either. 5-6 is both extremely fun and effective at tugging at the ol' heartstrings. 5-5... as mentioned before I love most things Athena/Simon related, and this is all about them (plus you-know-who who is also great).

Also really like 3-5 (I'm not too fond of the last bit, but good lord the playable Edgeworth section was so damn good they made a whole two games based on it) and E1-5 (just really love the cast). 6-5 is good but I agree with the sentiment that it's also a bit much... still that big twist is great. E2-5 is okay but way too long... saved by that final confrontation though. I barely remember 6-6. I remember 1-5 and I wish I didn't.

Voted 2-4, it's great, everyone knows it's great. Didn't even think about which to vote for here.

But I do think 6-4 is very solid! I feel like it gets back to the tighter murder mysteries of the original trilogy, and watching Athena and Simon treat Nahyuta like the clown he is ("Never!") is great. Terrible defendant but at least he's not that important.

2-3 is great. By far my biggest departure from this board, I love that case. Ben and Moe are two of the funniest characters in the series and the confrontation with Acro is stellar.

I also really, really like 1-3.
Paratroopa1 posted...
1-3 is just a classic. It's like, maybe the platonic ideal of an AA case, the lightning in a bottle that the series still tries to catch with every new game. It's Phoenix and Maya and Edgeworth and the Steel Samurai and all of these classic AA gimmicks and while it does have some weird pacing issues it's really just great.
This sums up my feelings. Like, to be honest? There's a very good chance that if 1-3 hadn't been as good as it was, I would never have played another Ace Attorney game. That case just completely clicked with me and sold me on the series' concept. So much fun, great twists, great witnesses.

3-3's good too! It's funny, Tigre is a fun and effective antagonist, and Phoenix's trap for him at the end is a thing of utter beauty.

I... kinda feel the series lost its way with case 3's after the original trilogy. Well, no, that's not fair; E2-3 is good! But otherwise... I really want to like 5-3 because I love Athena/Blackquill content but the murder doesn't do it for me (and I hate the triple confession scene), 6-3 feels incredibly bloated and drives home why I dislike the Kurain setting (you face an incompetent prosecutorial case, but you gets to "lose" because you're in a police state's kangaroo court, but then said police state happily lets you wander free to go investigating with their princess...), E1-3 and 4-3 are probably bottom five cases for me.

I really like both 2-2 and 5-2. 3-2, both Edgeworth-2's, and 6-2 are solid as well.

2-2's first trial day is just one of my favourite experience of overcoming a difficult, oppressive situation without it feeling unfair (it's a good frame job which is tough to poke holes in). Like... even when you finally get the Cornered music playing it still feels like you're scrambling for a lifeline in the best way possible.

5-2's just a fun case that introduces a lot of characters effectively and is a neat locked-room murder to crack (I think I may just like these...) and the takedown at the end remains one of my favourite moments in the series.

Calling this cheating is just bizarre to me. Everyone sharing a screen is a part of the game, which means everyone has access to everyone else's information. Mario Kart is not a stealth game. As already mentioned, there's an even an item in some of the games (the ghost) which is entirely based around knowing your opponent's item.

Has to be an RPG, since I went through my life where I finished those religiously no matter how mediocre. I think my answer is probably Grandia. I'm pretty sure it took me just over 50 hours, and while it has an interesting idea for a battle system (that its sequels execute far better), the gameplay is poorly balanced / super-easy and the writing is incredibly childish.

Comic Book Guy is in this weird zone for me. He was pretty alien but still highly amusing anyway to me as a kid. I'm not sure if realizing that there are people who legitimately think and act like him (e.g. the worst and most vocal parts of various fanbases) makes him more or less funny in hindsight. It's mildly terrifying regardless.

Of the names listed so far Milhouse's parents really doesn't do anything for me, and the rare times someone quotes something about them that is supposed to be funny I tend not to find it that funny, so them I guess.
