There's definitely a generational thing with regards to justifying this vs calling it what it is; but the claim that it's connected to alcohol and cannabis is utterly laughable considering that the trend holds even for people who don't touch either.

It seems both plausible, and the most widely accepted by those who actually dedicate their lives to researching this shit.

Ultimately, that's still putting faith in a claim that I can't personally verify (or at least, have not done so), but it certianly seems like the safest one to bet on.

Basically, GTA:SA without the RPGish elements. That's what they could do.

Not as in a literal remake, but use it as the "model" for the gameplay and the general feel of the missions. I'd almost say like, using it's engine, but more like... using the engine that a modernized remake of it might use, I guess? Not sure exactly how to word what I'm thinking here.

I'm well aware that Chrono Trigger was cited as an inspiration, but I didn't feel it's "ripping off" Chrono Trigger any more than it's "ripping off" the genre in general.

Just in case you're going to ask, I've pretty much completed the game, Lord of Time and that sea monster with the German-sounding name included. The only thing I haven't done yet is beat the final boss without destroying the minibosses around him first.

What do you define as "classic style" then? That awful "everyone picks one action, then all of them get executed in a random order" system?

To be honest I didn't feel IAS was that much of a CT ripoff. If anything, I saw far more parallels to FFX story-wise, while gameplay-wise there was no specific single game I felt reminded of.

Yes, legitimately (as long as you have a PSN account).

The cross-save in the PS3 and Vita versions only mentions PS3 and Vita, but it works with PS4 too.

Only in the context of remembering some of the funnier times in school. Oh, and this one time my old physics teacher got in the news for writing a racist letter to a local newspaper. Not very surprising, he was pretty blatantly racist, and I'm fairly sure the only reason he kept his job so long was because he was ridiculously good at teaching. As in, the only time he ever needed a textbook was to show us diagrams from them that would've taken ages to reproduce by hand.
