Every time I try to think about a more equitable model it ALWAYS ends up being a work for free model where you get paid in job experience by taking on different roles (kinda Marxist I guess), and then whateveryou get paid is secondary to that model. There is also the problem of fair pay and what exactly that entails. Most people will be happy to take enough to pay their bills, so that is what we get. Saying this is like saying "if you can't afford kids you shouldn't have them": true, but not the kind of society we want to aim for in terms of keeping people satisfied. Plus we live in a service economy where the consumer has waaaaaaay more say than the employee.
