There has to be some kind of sense to this. A 40 year old is legal to date an 18 year old but an 18 year old can't date a 17 year old legally? That would be pretty dumb as the 18 year old as no choice but to date older in this scenario.

What if a 17 year old and 16 year old are dating, does it suddenly become taboo when the 17 year old turns 18? Idk man, just seems like a contextual issue more than something we need to draw a hard line on for these reasons
Some people really get their undies in a twist over this. I remember years ago that there was a minor controversy in the Steven Universe fandom because it was revealed that the main character turned 14 in an episode and his love interest was 12 (and not "freshly turned 12" but "12 while the MC was 13"). You wouldn't believe the hysterics some people went into, screaming "power imbalance" and "predatory." I'm all for acknowledging power imbalances in relationships or age discrepancies (I think it's weird if a 30 year old wants to date an 18 year old, but it shouldn't really be illegal), but there is zero amount of either of those in a relationship between two people who are likely within 18 months of each other's age.

Feed before you leave and when you get back. Assuming you're not working like... twelve+ hour shifts, your pet won't starve. You can also get automatic feeders, but then you run the risk of your pet just spending all their time around it/figuring out how to jam their paws inside it to get extra food.

I usually feed my cats 1/4 cup of dry food and a fresh bowl of water when I get up in the morning (around 7 or 8) and then they get 5oz of wet food at 7 in the evening. They're both kinda chunky, so they're not starving.

He was freaking out, throwing himself against the grate of the carrier, and desperately trying to scratch his way out for almost the entire drive.

Depends on the title. Calling "My Hero Academia" "Boku no Hero Academia" is a little weird, but I'm not gonna throw a fit over it and I generally still know what the person is talking about.

I use Yuru/Laid-back Camp interchangeably. I default to Yuru because it's shorter. I also use Japanese titles if the English title is really long and because Japanese titles tend to have commonly understood four-or-less syllable shortened forms.

I watched a podcast once where someone tried to "call out" out one of the hosts for using the Japanese names of Naruto games instead of their localized titles. Dude had been importing them way before the show was even being dubbed, so that was the name he knew them by and he genuinely didn't know a lot of the English names.

The bad ones were mixed in with really good friends who I still rely on to this day. It also runs the risk of, "If I change my life this radically, it'll likely change the few parts of my life I do like currently." It sounds silly, but I wouldn't risk something as seemingly small as having my cats and the close friends I currently do just for a "chance" at a better life. I'd still have the memories and emotional scars without the damage having been done to me in that lifetime; people would think I was crazy.

My life has kind of been tossed completely upside down in the past few weeks and I still wouldn't take the redo. The redo won't take away the pain in my heart at being betrayed by the person I love most and the prospect of just never getting to know her at all seems even worse.

Genuinely surprised at all the people choosing the restart. Consider how hard it would be to make a lot of the small pieces of your life fall back into place and how that would affect you.

If I didn't somehow live in the exact place I did and come home at the time I did, I never would have heard a small cat meowing outside my door that one night almost five years ago. I wouldn't have my little buddy who's currently getting me through one of the worst moments of my entire life. I could maybe still engineer that to happen, but I would just feel empty and hollow if he wasn't there that night.

Imagine if you have kids. If you change virtually anything about your life, you likely won't have those same kids and you'll spend your life mourning someone that nobody but you knows existed.

Also, restarting my life would just mean re-living a lot of difficult times. No amount of foreknowledge would make these "easier" enough to make me want to go through them again. I'd suddenly have to deal with knowing which of my friends are snakes years before they show their true colors (but not having a good reason to cut them loose without losing the good friends at that point). I'd have to take Microbiology all over again. I'd have to look at the love of my life and know how horribly wrong that was going to go and that nothing in my power could be done to change it. At no point in my life did I have enough money or the means to turn something like "knowing about bitcoin before it was big" into any significant amount of money (at least not without serious work).

Why on Earth would I subject myself to all of that just for an opportunity to bust my ass for an absurdly large amount of money? Fifty million is already more than I could ever spend in my entire life. I wouldn't have to worry about rent. I could pay off my mom's house. I could buy a brand new car. I would still be sad, but restarting my life wouldn't change that especially if I retained my memories. With money, I could buy all the things that bring me happiness, take care of those I love, and never have to worry about basic survival ever again. This seems like a complete no brainer to me.

Yeah. I found him when he was a young cat (probably six months old) and I've had him for almost five years. I've lived in the same apartment that whole time and the furthest he's been is to the vet like fifteen miles away.

I've only had my other cat for about five months and she was an elderly stray before that. I think maybe she's used to things being unstable, so the new location isn't as shocking to her.

Moving the minimum wage up means needing to increase the pay for those that already make $15/hr, which then forces the business to increase pay for everyone else higher up the payscale.

In an organization with multiple job positions with varying pay, that could mean thousands more in payroll costs, which would be passed onto the consumer.

I mean, why would a nurse settle for being paid $5 more than a janitor, having to go through years of schooling and debt?
Oh, right, then the push would then move to make higher education free.

Basically that means everyone would be paying more taxes to pay for these pie-in-the-sky policies.
Or tax the obscenely rich instead of the average worker.

Meanwhile, my outgoing, attention-seeking cat has been hiding in various places almost the entire time I've been here. He also growled and meowed for almost the entire car ride. I'm giving up on DoorDash and delivery services in general. I was having an extremely bad day yesterday and ordered some Taco Bell. Like five minutes after placing the order, I decided to cancel it because I couldn't handle dealing with them when they inevitably got lost.

Couldn't cancel because "the restaurant had already started preparing the food."

It then took the driver 30 minutes to get to the restaurant. "Driver is waiting for food to be prepared" meaning it hadn't actually been started 30 minutes ago. Took about ten to fifteen minutes.

Driver then spends about twenty minutes driving here. He's lost. He calls me and... no offense intended, but he had an extremely thick and unintelligible accent and it sounded like he was on speaker phone. I give extremely detailed instructions on the order form. My apartment can be a little difficult to navigate, but most drivers get lost because "I can't find apartment number [building number that I make very clear is different from the apartment number]." I was so frustrated that I thought about telling him just to keep the food.

I explain how to get to my door as best I can. Took about five minutes. He found it. He was very polite as he handed me my order.

I sit down. Open up the bag. The food is still fairly warm (so definitely not prepared an hour ago). I should have been able to cancel it. I eat one of my tacos and then can't stomach anymore (but this is because of the stuff that's going on in my life and not doordash's fault).

The experience was stressful, I didn't enjoy my food, and this was all because of the inherently flawed design of the system. I'm done with it. I live in a decently sized city and relatively close to the restaurant I ordered from. DoorDash is horribly inefficient and they don't treat their drivers well. I always tried to compensate the latter by tipping well (typically in the neighborhood of 70% tips for orders just for me), but I give up.

Yep, and a lot of people dont recognize this. Some people eat when they are depressed, and if its a constant thing then they're going to eat a lot.
This is why it drives me crazy that people just go "Hurr CICO put the fork down!"

People aren't robots. People emotionally eat. Telling someone to count calories isn't going to fix that. It can be part of the solution, but it can't be the whole thing.

I also intensely dislike the "Huuuuurrrr diet coke" thing. Liquid calories are actually a huge factor in why there's an obesity epidemic. You can suck down 500+ calories with ease, especially at a restaurant where they constantly refill your drink, and that can be "fixed" with diet soda. If you substitute three full-calorie sodas for three diet sodas a day (not an unrealistic amount for some people), that's around 500 calories saved a day. After a week, that's 3500 (and that's a pound). Keep it up for a while and you can easily lose weight with just a simple change. Now, you're not gonna lose a ton of weight and you'll plateau eventually, but then you can make another small change. Most people cannot sustain making sudden, massive changes to their diet and lifestyle.

If you cut out soda, fried food, and sugar from your diet overnight and lost forty pounds in six months? Cool, good for you! Not sustainable or even initially achievable for most people.

The last time my father tried to spank me was when I was a senior in high school. He snarled at me, demanding to know how I "got a stain on [my] shirt" as he raised his hand to hit me. He did this in front of multiple people. The "stain" was a faint gray design on a black t-shirt: it was one I had bought from the company that sold all of our graduation invitations and such. I was probably 17, possibly 18, and he still tried to hit me for a perceived wrongdoing.

I haven't spoken to that fucker in nearly a decade. I hope the next time I see him is when they lower him into the ground. Don't hit your kids.
