I don't play games on my PC. Just not something I'm really set up for nor do I enjoy gaming cooped up in my room. I do have Steam link from the $5 closeout sale which has had...mixed results. The only game I was able to tolerate playing through on it that I had no choice about was Umineko, which, you know...life changing experience, so I was able to tolerate the terrible resolution. Audio was clean at least!

So yeah this will be a visual novel and PC exclusive RPG machine for me.

Yeah tanking The Vault is easy to figure out but fun to do.

The responsibility for the last boss of it is mostly on the healer, so I could see having a rusty one making it harder.

lolwhat? XIII-2 is a top 3 game

One of the 5 worst games I've ever played.

Literally nothing about it that I liked at all.

I'm just glad I've forgotten most of it, honestly, though I can still see the vague recollections of scenes in my head.

It was not until Death Stranding that I encountered a final chunk of a game that made me so furious, though at least with DS there was stuff I liked along the way.

I forget the specifics, but these was a chapter with a specific date near the end of XIII-2 where I basically gave up all pretense and very definitely decided "this is the worst level I have ever experienced in any video game and there is nothing the game can do to make up for it".

I mean if they die you should immediately change to someone else. Dying on the dancer is more rude, and you're literally losing dps for the group which is even ruder.

Oh yeah forgot to mention dance partners. I've actually been spending time trying to memorize which DPS have the best average withing a specific level range to decide on my partner depending on content. I made a vow never to change partners during normal difficulty content because...I mean that's rude lol.

Improvisation really has to get changed in Endwalker. Like, at LEAST it needs to scale with the number of people in the party, at best it becomes a normal tick like meditation.

And yes, always using standard step on cooldown is important. I don't even know why they bother with the 60 second cooldown job gauge, just tricks new players. You could make a situational argument to not use technical step on cooldown if you know how far away a boss is from your party in a dungeon or alliance, but on trials/raids/bosses it's cooldown always.

Dancer is super mega easy to play. It look intimidating looking at the list of abilities, but it honestly might be the biggest disparity between on paper description and execution imaginable.

You have a 2 ability single target GCD combo and a 2 ability AOE GCD combo with damage values for use in any situation with more than 1 enemy. Other than that......it's literally just keeping up your dances (your single target attacks become the dance buttons when you start dancing, you don't bind those seperately) . All the other GCD's and offensive oGCDs are random procs and you use them as they come up. Procs don't interrupt combos and don't need to BE comboed, you can straight up zero thought that stuff.

The only part of dance that requires any thought is when to use your oGCD buffs on 2 minute cooldown.

TECHNICALLY you also get to learn how many boss mechanics you get to be safe in for longer than other characters because of your dash, lol.

Doing just MSQ will take very little effort to do by Endwalker. If you're in the Heavensward patches you're almost halfway there afterall. The amount of side content you want to do is going to keep increasing, though.

And as others have said, the rest of the series in general does not compare to the first arc, but the one arc that DOES match the first in quality...was completely removed from the show.

There have been theories as to the cause, but nothing official. The strongest theory in my mind is they were forbidden from showing children using guns on TV, which is featured in basically....almost the entirety of the series after the opening arc. Goldy Pond in particular is full of it. So yeah that fucks up the planning a bit.

There's also the not to surprising factor that the manga was over and the series in general is not built to sell merch, and they no longer had any reason to put in effort.

What we do know is that many members of the staff, including the manga writer themselves, requested that their names be removed from the credits in the last few episodes.

The clip show at the end of the final episodes goes over the entirety of a would be season 3, so these factors combined make it clear that they cut their losses and ran. The studio in question, Cloverworks, has been producing anime that cuts huge swaths of content from the source material for years now, but they've been getting a pass because the shows themselves have generally been very well regarded. Promised Neverland S2 is a blight that they won't recover from for some time, to the point where "what are they going to cut from this" has become the first question asked when Cloverworks is revealed to be on a show. Their most recent series, Shadow House followed this same trend. Good show from what I've watched, but they started cutting stiff very early on, so they haven't bucked their methods.

It's a very complicated situation, especially since they did actually put a ton of effort into turning 1.0 around, putting hundreds of thousands of dollars and hours into work on it even while the entire dev team knew that the game would cease to exist in less than a year.

Like, there were people writing entire storylines and crating cutscenes that would end up existing for less than a month before being completely eradicated forever, and they knew that while they were making them! Some of that stuff was never recorded so it's not even possible to access them anymore even if you searched it out.

The argument that FFXIV doesn't take the top spot because it's fixed now is inherently flawed. FFXIV as it is not a fixed 1.0, 1.0 is no longer a game that exists. A Realm Reborn is a different video game.

I played it a couple months ago -- not to completion, which might be needed to have a proper opinion, but a fair bit -- and it didn't strike me as trash. The main reason people crapped on it at launch was the bugs, and those have been patched out.

I 100% that game and only ever got one bug!

"but why would you 100% a game you think is garbage", you may ask.

It's Mass Effect.

Even the dev team that worked on A realm reborn is different from the original.

Not the case. The director and producer changed (into one person). A vast majority of the dev tram remained the same, splitting into a team to try and make good on 1.0 as much as possible and a team working on 2.0, before merging after 1.0 experienced it's WEE.

I feel like that part of the story gets lost to a lot of people as well. They NEVER stopped working on 1.0 until the end, even when they were working on 2.0 at the same time. It actually did end up becoming a serviceable if very flawed product by the end there!

I mean there totally have been games where they HAD to do that to save it. They just didn't.

Potentially, but genre matters here.

FFXIV is an ongoing game that needs active players to survive. Initial sales numbers mean very little in terms of the cost of the product, all that matters is specific number of units. It's to such a degree that FFXIV and it's first expansion are free indefinitely, with no time limit or monthly fee, and only a few limitations.

Plenty of games are terrible and could have absolutely used a ground up remake. There's no actual incentive to do that though.

FFXIV HAD to be fixed, or it had to be shutdown. It was nothing but pure negative profits for an entire year. They didn't have a choice, a failed launch meant a product meant to have a lifespan of years was dead in the water. No amount of regular old patches was ever going to fix that.

And the craziest thing is that 1.0 launched worse than just about every other failed MMO on the market launched, and yet all of them just gave up and shut down.

I also feel like Cyberpunk doesn't belong here because the game isn't actually fixed and may never be. They're back on the PSN store, they have no reason to try and sell new copies because they already made bank and an absurd number of people own the game, the game still basically doesn't work on PS4 and there's no indication it ever will. They've basically ended up getting away scott free with no REAL negative repercussions other than their reputations, and there's maybe 100 people on earth tops who would skip Witcher 4 who planned to buy it in the first place just because of what happened with Cyberpunk.

"Got pulled from PSN" sounds real bad in a vacuum, but I honestly don't think launch Cyperpunk and current Cyberpunk are even all that different.
