So the split timeline between flashbacks and Eva's life after everything is about the same. Dropping the framing device does kind of ruin the twist that Kevin killed Franklin and Celia, though. Neither of them showing up in the "present" scenes makes it really obvious because it's the simplest explanation and there's no reason to think otherwise. ~~Also the book has a lot more detail about exactly how the shooting went down, since you seem disappointed that the movie didn't cover that.~~ Camden posted... ~~Is there more to why everyone in town hates Tilda Swinton beyond 'Related To Kevin = Bad'?~~ Not really, no. I know it's unrealistic to expect everything in a book to make it to a film adaptation, but there's just so much stuff cut out that it felt more like a highlight reel of just some of the bigger moments. It really doesn't help that I think the story just works better in written form anyway. Good performance from Tilda Swinton, though. 6/10 --- Congrats to 2020 GotD Guru champ azuarc!

Xeybozn 05/24/21 7:02:34 PM #376	For what it's worth, even I know it's a huge oversimplification to say "red states hate Democrats because Democrats insult them constantly". There's a whole bunch of bigger reasons red states hate Democrats. (Racism, preference for GOP's views on other social issues, the Democrats tacking right on economic policies under Clinton and destroying rural economies, etc.) But saying entire states are just dumb sure isn't going to help change anyone's minds. Also, regarding the GOP hating on California and New York: They can get away with it because our system favors whichever party controls more states. Yeah, it's not fair and maybe things would be different without the Senate and Electoral College propping them up, but for now we're stuck with the system we have. (Plus, I never see any whining from the right wondering why blue states are too dumb to realize they're voting wrong, whereas it's extremely common to see the left think that way about red states.) --- Congrats to 2020 GotD Guru champ azuarc!
