| Topic | Cryptocurrency is amazing. Can't wait for the day that it's mainstream |
| Sad_Face 03/28/21 4:59:36 AM #46 | 1337toothbrush posted... There are problems with the banking system, but that doesn't mean there are no problems with cryptocurrencies. If you send crypto to the wrong address then have fun trying to revert that transaction. Accessibility is an issue, sure. But the potential is there. This is the equivalent to the early times of the internet but we're progressing far more rapidly. DeFi can net you an easy 10% in interest compared to banks' super saver accounts of 0.1% interest. I've used pools that divvy out over 90% in interest. The more you learn about DeFi, the more you use DeFi and understand it, the more it makes you question the future of regular banks. The only thing they have right now is accessibility but even that is going to continue diminishing as now there are applications to convert your public address into something more readable and there are projects out there aiming to resolve the issue of misclicks and accidentally sending assets of what you did not intend to send. --- |

| Sad_Face 03/28/21 4:40:42 AM #36 | 1337toothbrush posted... This topic brilliantly demonstrates how crypto fans praise cryptocurrencies for doing things that aren't new. Sounds like you haven't been in a position where you had to fight with your bank over transactions they flagged as fraudulent. I'm ready to look for another bank honestly. The other boon comes from being able to jump between different applications and not needing to "sign up". Just sign a transaction with your wallet and you're good to go. Banks are quaking in their boots. They're going to have to fight to survive when crypto hits its stride in adoption. The decentralized world is super seamless and has zero hassle. To give an example, I applied for a loan with a bank and they wanted multiple cheque stubs, a letter from my company stating I worked there, and a bunch of IDs. It took a few weeks to get verified for a $3K loan with no credit. With crypto? It took me 10 minutes to get a $1000 loan, but I had to overcollaterallize and put up essentially $2K (it's lower than this, but this is cleaner) worth of assets. I had a good 60 days to pay it back and it cost me $13 in fees and interest in total. This was back in 2019, I'm curious to see what kind of ways they'll make loans more accessible to the common man in the crypto world. --- |

You don't know of guys who talk about working harder cause they have a wife and kids (he wouldn't be putting in the effort nearly as much if he wasn't living with her)? Literally a good percentage of the people in investing are dudes who are trying to make it to score a girl in an inevitable failure of an attempt of validation or dudes are pissed off at their exes. On top of that, the blockchain field is trying to make a push to appeal more to women. You can't appeal the same way to women as you do for men, the fact that it's so male dominated is proof of this despite the technology here is the most accessible and identity blind a field could ever be. --- |

| Topic | Is it right for white parents to change their children to a different school... |
| Sad_Face 03/26/21 12:27:34 PM #5 | Put your kid in a school where they can easily hit the top 10% and they'll have the leg up on getting accepted to their college of choice. This comes at the expense of potentially going to a less rigorous school with less resources to give your kid a strong foundation before they go on into a harder degree program. It's not about being right or wrong, it's recognizing how big of an investment college is and being strategic in maximizing their chances at success. ^^That was my driveby post. Now that I read the article, oh man it's worse than I thought. You have kids who are coming from families that crack the whip on their education, to the point where they go to summer school to take classes to get the leg up before they hit HS. It's not even about competition at that point, why bother with a HS with such a cutthroat environment? That's a recipe for suicide. --- |
| Topic | How does Bitcoin/crypto = regular currency? |
| Sad_Face 03/25/21 5:21:51 PM #2 | Some businesses are being forward thinking in accepting BTC/ETH/whatever. Otherwise, you'll have to go to an exchange like Coinbase or Gemini to buy BTC with fiat currency (US dollars) or sell back into fiat currency. And then there are crypto ATMs out there to my knowledge. The goal is to get crypto to be universally accepted. As it stands now, the BTC network and ETH network are too slow to handle the transactions necessary for everyday use. To get a transaction cleared, it takes a good few minutes. That's not good enough for grocery shopping, we need seconds in transaction speed. But what I can see happening is that local governments or corporations would offer their own inhouse currency backed by the BTC or some reserve of value that you could exchange for to use in for that jurisdiction or service. Leave the BTC as a store of value a la gold and peg currencies of faster networks to the BTC. --- |

| Sad_Face 03/24/21 4:18:55 PM #95 | SquirtleSkwad posted... Nope. Three hour tutorials of unnecessary mechanics do not appeal to me whatsoever. I've tried this series with three separate games and it's always been the same. It's the feedback loop my man. You fight some super strong monster and struggle against him. You persevere and finally beat him. Just barely. That's not good enough. So you go after the monster again, fight him over and over in attempt to truly say you have won over him. All the while, each time you fight him, you find you don't need to stock up on the maximum number of healing items anymore as you learn and respond appropriately to the monster and dodge their attacks more often. You respond to openings more and successfully attack more. After each and every successful hunt you find your runtimes decreasing in succession. Progress. That is Monster Hunter. At least the demo in which I have over 130 hours on, last I checked. It's rough starting out, but if you keep at it and learn the weapon so you don't have to fight the weapon as much as you're fighting the monster, you can kickstart the feedback loop and the addiction will kick in. --- |

But for the uninitiated, he's trying to mimic this article. https://www.cracked.com/blog/6-harsh-truths-that-will-make-you-better-person/ OP, I will tell you that I feel like I've wasted the last 4 years at this one job where I've learned absolutely nothing and feel even further behind in life compared to my friends. Even worse, I've started a number of projects and I've failed to complete any one of them. But this sounds a bit disingenuous because I've had insane life changing success investing in the crypto world, more so than 90% of the people who have touched the field, am quite knowledgeable of the field yet I feel like a total failure in life. But my point is that to get out of your funk, you want to have accomplishments under your belt. Therapy isn't going to help anywhere near as much as finding a goal and working toward to fulfilling it. What you'll have to do is keep trying new things, keep learning new things, and focus on finding a field that will absorb your time and through it, developing a skill that you want to show off to the world and enjoy doing so. Be willing to use it for others and give it away for free and opportunities will follow and you'll gain accomplishments through it. I spent my time reading up on blockchain tech and was knowledgeable enough to do a couple lectures at my local university for a friend's professor. That opportunity evolved to us collaborating with a few others on a grant that we could have turned into a legitimate company, but things went south and so it's on hold. It didn't work out that well, but this would never have been possible if I weren't gungho about blockchain wanted to share with the rest of the world my adoration for the field. You're 27, which is old, but I was busy burgerflipping at 26 and I still live with my parents at 29. It's still possible to turn your life around. But you have to take risks and be adventurous. --- |

You say this, but Nigerian's are the most successful ethnic group in the U.S. If anything it supports the argument that Black Americans still feel the effects of slavery to this day since Nigerian immigrants tend to come from wealthy educated families already. what influences culture the most, if not history? And Nigerians also didnt have their culture and dignity stripped from them. Their parents didnt have to spend time fighting for basic human rights on American soil. They got to skip that part because of AAs. The culture my parents grew up on and the culture I grew up on are night and day. For starters, when my mom grew up, she couldn't go down more than a few blocks without some neighbor informing her parents where she was going. We don't have that sense of community anymore. All the while, other races in my area huddle together and pool their resources to get ahead. I implore you all to learn about wealth and how generational wealth is made. "The Millionaire Next Door" is a good book to read. The reason why I bring this up is because the lifestyle to rise to a millionaire status is the EXACT OPPOSITE of so many trends in black culture. We have a lot of cultural values that end up sabotaging ourselves. SPE posted... its easy to whine about the black absentee father, but people rarely bring up many of those absentee cases is because the father went sent to jail over some minor bulls*** a white dude would have not even paid a fine for In my immediate friend circle alone, we have 2 mothers and one expecting father and one expecting mother. The odds are stacked against us. Yes. But that doesn't absolve us of personal responsibility to find our own success and do our best in what we can control. It wasn't institutional racism that lead half the mothers in my friend circle to be raising kids alone. It was them having accidents with not so good men. It wasn't institutional racism that a family in my neighborhood of 8 kids have a few of them not in the school system and aren't learning anything. It's the lack of action on the parents. There are toxic issues in our own culture that we can directly influence. If we prioritize having strong family values, the base standards of the black community will rise. --- |

People just want to make money, they don't care about the actual technology for the most part. The problem with PoS is that its security is nowhere near the level of PoW. I'd ask what blockchain is but I've done that before and shit's gotten really weird so I don't know To try and put it simply, it's an architecture for maintaining a public ledger, where everyone's transaction history is in the open and available for viewing and transactions are grouped up in blocks in order of recency, i.e. each block stores transactions that took place during the time miners were mining for the rewards of that time period. I've omitted a good deal of information (especially parts about being decentralized, how mining works) while still trying to be accurate. The most important thing is that it's a public ledger, everyone can see your transactional history so they know what wallet you sent crypto and how much you're worth. But this is a consequence of aiming to create a digital currency where no fraudulent transactions are possible. --- |
