However, just bickering all the time can hard wire some bad behavior. It's amazing how shitty parenting has been over the last 60 years. ~The boomers set us up pretty good. Time to break that chain! Yea, its a work in progress as is life. The way I see it, while there may be moments of weakness where my reactions to situations is not ideal, the fact that I can step back realize what mistakes I made and address it with them, shows them that everyone makes mistakes and it is important to self reflect and correct those mistakes it also shows them that even as parents we are fallible and are constantly working to improve ourselves, hopefully setting an example they will follow. --- Mind post. I am honestly really guilty of this, a combination of depression, stress, lack of sleep and long long work hours sometimes causes me to become very irritable and it always makes me feel like shit afterwards. I always apologize to my kids and explain that my behavior was not ideal and that I still love them, but I know deep down I am causing damage to them. Hopefully not as much damage as was caused to me by my mom and the countless foster/group homes I spent most of my childhood in.
