The thing is, Sony doesn't own any of those characters. They have plenty of great first parties but I always felt faulting a crossover for not having enough 3rd parties out of the gate is a bizarre criticism (I mean, they managed 5 on the first outing, which is impressive on its own for being made by a small studio. Nintendo didn't manage that until the 4th Smash game)

Excellent take on the subgenre, with its mini-murder-mysteries almost always grabbing me. Its puzzles are interesting and unique, and always reflect the story, and an endgame twist that's... Ambitious, to say the least

Not quite on the level of Edith Finch and Gone Home but still great

yeah another indie walking game I give huge story credit too but I loved Gone Home

The story of Sam and Lonnie is excellent and probably gets an 8 at least on its own, but what sells it for me as expert storytelling is the tiny details. The note from the mom complaining about Kaitlyn leaving all the lights in the house on (which, unless you're a sociopath or something, the player almost certainly was too). The many old copies of the dad's book in the study, with a set of new copies by a different publisher in the garage. The brochure for marriage counseling. All the vaguely unsettling implications about the uncle they inherited the house from. The way it plays into horror tropes to get you to prepare for the worst, despite each instance having a rational, in-game explanation. While Sam's obviously the focus, you get a strong overview of each significant character without ever meeting them, and it's almost entirely optional, depending completely on how invested the player is in piecing everything together.

I will also probably have that open in a separate topic for a month.

I'm also considering doing a tournament of sorts when we hit 32, if people would be interested? I would take the top two songs from each album so far and put them in a bracket. That would also be run separate from the main topics and anyone can participate as long as they know both entrants in a match. I would probably do 8 songs per topic and have those open for 3 days each or something.

There are almost no video game stories that have done as much with as little as this game has. I think about this game at least once a week and have done so for years despite it being about 3 hours long. It made me cry, and laugh, and think, and feel, and contemplate the wrenching horror of a monotonously wasted life. About as perfect as a video game story could possibly be.
