Technically none of the things you mentioned are socialist. Those are welfare policies seen in capitalist states. In a socialist society the means of production would be in the hands of the workers so you wouldn't need a minimum wage. You also wouldn't be able to own private property (different from personal property), so housing couldn't be owned by someone not living in it. Lot of Americans use socialism go mean "government doing things".

Yeah, I was going by the currently popular American definition. When a large amount of people consider Joe Biden a radical socialist, it's safe to say the word got a different meaning.
As far as I know there's not really a significant socialist movement in the US. I wouldn't consider Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez socialist either, even though they do use that label themselves.

Most people don't want to be deliberately incorrect, not for no good reason, at least.

A lot of words have a colloquial meaning that differs from its medical definition. Just to name a few: depression, psychotic and psychopath are all often used 'wrong' in informal language.

However when someone says "this movie is depressing", we don't get four pages of people going "AcTuAlLy, you mean sad. Movies don't cause clinical depression".

But for some reason this one word is like a bat signal for all of CE's pedants. To the point where they manage to derail every topic related to this subject.

It's true that she's from a Hellenistic family that was known for inbreeding rather than mixing with the local population, so it's likely she looked more like a native Greek than a native Egyptian. However, I doubt she was that pale looking. The Egyptian weather alone makes that pretty difficult lol.

Besides, in Roman art women are usually depicted with much lighter skin tones than men. So I don't think this one fresco is strong evidence for her complexion being pale.

What puts me off WD for externals is that they directly mount the USB connector onto the drive. Whereas Seagate ones usually contain a SATA drive, with a USB to SATA bridge. A lot of the time, a "broken" Seagate can at least be taken out, and connected to a SATA adapter (or just a SATA port in a desktop PC) and the data recovered - whereas with WD, you can't do this.

It's only the portable 2.5inch WD drives that have that AFAIK. The bigger MyBooks and Elements can be shucked just fine.

What actually matters is performance relative to pre transitioning and post transitioning. Hypothetically if we're taking people who were bottom-tier athletes when presenting as men and suddenly they're in the top 10% of women athletes, something is obviously unfair.

Addressing both of these posts: because weightlifting is traditionally considered a man's sport I'd hazard a guess that there are more men partaking professionally than women. And therefore there's more competition in the men's ranking than in the women's.

I don't think you can assume a change in ranking after transition would be enough evidence of unfairness by itself.

Now the details in the article are pretty scarce, so I don't know whether the police actions were warranted here. Just saying that police shouldn't get a free pass to kill whomever just because the initial blame lies with the suspect.
