That means the vaccines are working. It was always about making during the health care system doesn't get overrun. Getting vaccinated helps that.

That being said, UK's and Europe's mistake is spreading out the rime between the first and second shot. A shorter time between shots would help a lot.

How does American hospitals/healthcare work? Like the vast majority of Americans wouldn't be able to afford their hospital bill. Do you just pay it off like a mortgage? What about long term patients? Is there interest?

I had my appendix out the other year. Went to the doctor with stomach pain at 4pm, told me to go to the hospital, was admitted at 5pm, doctor saw me at 7pm, did some tests, booked me for surgery 8am the next day, had 3 days recovery in there. All I paid was $50 parking for my wife to visit across a few days. Australian here.

Edit: I mean, of course I pay around $1800 a year in Medicare taxes and I also now have private health insurance that costs my wife and I around $5000 a year, but then I didn't have private health insurance, so it was fully covered by Medicare.

In Australia the legal BAC is 0.05. If someone had 2 beers at dinner, drove home, went through a booze bus and blew 0.06-0.08, a first time offense, I would be okay with them getting a lighter punishment. If they did it again, no dice, full extent of the law.

If it's someone who's gone out, drank 10 beers and driven home and blown 0.15 or something, even if it's a first offense, full extent of the law.
