People legitimately thought he would be the next LeBron type of player. 6'11, can drive, pass, play defense and could score. He never had a shot but much like LeBron people thought it would get better over time. He never got better and regressed to a HS level offensive player. Seriously, there are some Seniors in HS right now who could drop more points than Simmons could in a game, and that's not something you want from a 1st overall pick.

The sympy for some fields of work is fucking funny to me. Call me insensitive, but I have received horrible emails and partaked in meetings where I have had the entire jail built on my ass, while being overworked and disrespected on a daily basis by higher ups who work WITH me. Even though my salary was decent it didn't outweigh the stress everything else put on me, atleast as a waiter or delivery driver you have relatively low expectations. You give people their food on time and be polite, that's literally all they expect from you. As opposed to someone thinking you're their personal bitch and lumping you with 20+ hours of work on a Friday.

1. Floyd is old and was never a power hitter
2. He was 40+ pounds lighter than his opponent (which is fucking massive in boxing with gloves)
3. He wasn't hitting as hard as he could or was even trying to knock him out
4. Why would he want to KO him when he was under no threat to lose at any point. He literally could have danced around for all 8 rounds and gassed Paul if he truly wanted.
5. Paul held his own but if you place him in the ring with a similar sized ex pro he would get annihilated

The entire premise of the book is quite literally the struggle of internal memories and beliefs. The political aspect of it is nothing more than a vessel to show the true underlying theme of mental instability. Just because it has a dystopian type future setting doesn't mean that's the main takeaway from the novel. Socialism and more specifically the comparisons to Nazis and the Russian Revolution are nothing more than a backdrop for Winston's conflicted beliefs and the actual psychology behind why people will believe something they know is not true. Even the pacing of the book shows this overtly because of how much time is spent in the Love Department as opposed to the actual world around, the foreshadowings were apparent halfway through the novel. It also is more of a commentary on how at the end of the day people are selfish and will sell out whoever it takes in order to save their own skin. O'Brien is a placeholder for a parental figure/priest/teacher aka someone who you are supposed to trust. It shows that even these types of people will backstab you overtly and cause you the most pain, an abuser syndrome more or less.

In fact I would say it's a great barometer to see how people can read between the lines or not, being force fed a certain narrative only to have it be a small setting in a much more micro internal struggle.

I'm pretty sure it was a lab leak and I don't think that means it was intentional however. The genealogy of how they were describing the virus always seemed strange. Why would a bat bit a pangolin or even vice versa? I might be ignorant but it seems highly unlikely an animal that flies at night would ever come into contact with a land creature, even moreso when it involves whatever specific two creatures to even carry the disease. And then we are supposed to accept that the meat market food wasn't cooked to a temp to kill the disease once it was consumed?
