Agreed. Backed bloodstained at the 150 tier, and the gameplay ended up becoming my favorite out of all the metroidvanias. Symphony of the night was definitely the shit playing it in 1997, but a lot of things about it didn't age all that well.

One area bloodstained was a little weak in was the ost though....symphony of the night's ost still slaps. I was actually hoping way more of those curse of the moon tracks would show up in the main game/ritual of the night, like that stage 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8 tracks. Feels bad.

The first time I was seeing things like daytona usa, virtua fighter, battle arena toshinden on the playstation and other early 3D games compared to the 2D arcade games and the nes, snes, genesis, sega cd etc. console gaming I was doing at the time.

After the initial 3D gaming wave, the next time I remember going "god damn this look crazy" was when the xbox 360 was first came out and seeing king kong on the 360 set up on a demo 360 at wal-mart. That, and seeing a waterfall up close in perfect dark zero was pretty wild to me, lol. Nothing was that big of a jump to me ever since.

These days, games with a well done HDR setup (a lot of companies is still getting the HDR thing wrong. Its still in it's hit or miss stage) and games with really cool art styles like persona 5 are the only ones to get a reaction out of me. Nothing crazy, but just make me impressed. I bought a samsung Q9FN awhile back which is really capable of bringing out HDR highlights and whatnot, so stuff like horizon zero dawn and ghosts of tsushima will impress on the really nice HDR front, but I don't think another xbox 360 king kong situation is going to come along again for me no time soon.

Most likely. Hell the director of the yakuza series actually admitted that they were a little envious at ghost of tsushima's success. His reasoning is that sucker punch easily pulled off having a normal middle-aged guy to be the game's hero (along with the majority of the supporting characters being in the same age range). He was like had he or anyone else suggested to do the same for the main yakuza series (a older, age appropriate or not as handsome looking kiryu), the higher ups and shareholders most likely will always shoot it down, because in their eyes the japanese will only buy games with youthful looking major characters. (The side cast can be old, but not like say, kiryu or the lead female supporting character, stuff like that).

Nice. This is on my short list of games to buy. All of which are 2D. Though I may get Risk of Rain 2 which is 3D. But shmups, run n guns, beat em ups, 2D action are my favorite genres. 2D is where the vast majority of skill based, gameplay focused games are.

The japanese has a phobia with using female characters once they get to a certain age. The female age thing was one of the major reasons that soul calibur 5 had a huge time skip and had all of the naturally aging ladies replaced. (Being immortal and/or slow aging is totally fine though, so characters like ivy and tira can stay).

Honestly, its a miracle they even used ada in resident evil 6 (and came close to using her again in village).

Cyber shadow on the PS5 (the PS5 version of this game plays at 120hz, which actually feels really snappy with 2D platforming). The game was fun as hell to the point where I got the platinum trophy asap.

I'm guessing both that, and zues reversing his current situation of being eaten by the other thundercloud and teaming up with nami for the thunderclap.

Definitely capcom. My monster hunter world save is like, 2,000 hours, and I usually buy most of the games they either develop or publish.

*I bought rise also, but I only put like, 5 hours into that so far. I think monster hunter fatigue finally caught up to me*

I also just got done beating resident evil village like two days ago. I also got that ghosts and goblins resurrection digital pre-order on the ps4. (Well playing the ps4 version on the ps5 anyway).

The story is goofy fun (definitely do not take it seriously), and I genuinely believe that RE6 has the best gameplay in the series when it comes to the over-the-shoulder resident evils (not the camera work mind you, but the actions like diving, being able to crawl, the quick shot system, the melee attacks, the combos with your partner etc). I have always played it with either my friend or my brother though....both RE5 and RE6 aren't the type of games I would have that much fun with had I been playing solo.

My first playthrough on standard clocked in at 14 hours. Mind you, I am the type that likes to take my time and absolutely refused to leave a room in currently searching status until its blue, so there was a lot of times when I had to wonder a room for what felt like 20 damn minutes looking for that one sparkly jewel in a ceiling or some well-hidden herd, ammo, or money tucked away in some random spot to turn the room blue.

As far as the game itself goes, not going to front, its definitely up there in the resident evils for me. Resident evil 2 classic will forever be my favorite RE game (Liked practically every single thing about RE2. The playable characters/supporting cast/antagonists, the A/B scenario system (the OG's version), but this game is a solid second.

They all have moments like that. In Xillia you can win the first fight with Gaius and you get a nice reward for beating him but the game literally just continues exactly as if you'd lost.

Symphonia has a similar deal with Kratos but if you beat him the game makes you fight Mithas who does like 999999 damage or some nonsense and I don't know if victory is possible even though it's a real fight.

Sure, but stuff like that is usually just little side rewards for winning in fights your aren't supposed to. Also, beating kratos at that point is just considered a bonus...mithas will always murk you afterwards no matter what.

The zestiria thing is a straight up bad end. The game tells you to stay away from that guy, so if you go out of your way to beat him anyway the world is fucked by that dragon god thingy matelous or however you spell it, with accompanying anime scene telling you you done fucked up.

Tales of zestiria has one where if you manage to beat the big bad when your not supposed to (he roams around in certain places), the world still gets engulfed in darkness or whatever the hell. They even did a little anime segment for it, about something feeling off or whatever.

In one of the best anecdotal examples I can think of in terms of how the general public's perception of video games changed over the years, I bought a Super Mario 2 hologram wallet in the late 80's. I loved it, but was teased mercilessly at school over it, and stopped using it. A decade later, my kid brother dug it out of storage and started using it; all his classmates loved it.

Feels like video games started to become more accepting in general in the mid/late 90s.

I used to rock my final fantasy 7 pre-order cloud shirt a lot in 8th grade 97' and actually got a good bit of compliments about it. That and questions about what final fantasy was from some people.

Sony has never hid their disdain for cross play. I'm pretty sure they openly admit in an interview that they see it as a bad business decision that only helps their competition. They would much rather everyone feel like they have to buy a PS4/5 copy of a game because that's where everybody else is playing.

This. Microsoft was the exact same way when they had the "upper hand" back in the early/mid gen. of the 360 and PS3 days. I forgot what games it was in particular, but microsoft rejected crossplay back then. It might have been something to do with some of valve's games.

At the end of the day, all these companies is mainly out for theirselves.

Like others said, 3D audio works with any stereo headset.

I have used a beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 80 ohms for all my gaming (put a 40 dollar'ish modmic on them to have them act as my gaming headset). Sounds real nice, boomy bass, velour earpads by default so they are extremely comfortable, and built like a tank. The only downside is that the cord isn't detachable.

Headsets like these though, the dualshock 4 and the dualsense isn't going to be able to fully power them to bring out their potential/impedance is too high...going to want to get a usb amp/dac. I use my old astro mixamp pro TR for volume control in a usb slot, and this isn't really needed but I like it anyway to get the sound a little more oomph a fiios E17k portable amp.

My first non-school related PC game was duke nukem 3D. I had some sort of general computer class in my freshman year of highschool/1998...since this class was mad easy, I had mad free time where I can just play around on the PC I was sitting at, going through the files, etc.

One day, I came across a folder just titled duke in the program files folder. I opened it up, found the executable for duke nukem 3D...come to find out it was the actual full game and not the shareware version, lol. Not only that, I also found out it was installed in about 5 other computers, all in the back row where I sit at (basically out of the teacher's sight).

I showed the dude next to me where it was at, and next thing you know 4 of us is playing duke nukem 3D for the next 8 months in this class. The teacher only ever found it we was playing this game on the final week of school, lol.

Take for example Animal Crossing and the quality of life features players have been asking for.

This is mainly a nintendo problem if anything.

Now nintendo, they give the impression of a bunch of old dudes running things who most of the time just do not "get" a lot of things that has to deal with the convenience side of gaming, features younger gamers ask for or certain things players in the west ask for since we have certain needs that can be a little different then what japanese gamers have uses for (the greater importance for online play and online play options, since our countries are a bit bigger in size thus making local play more uncommon for our side of the pond compared to japan, etc.).

The way they run their online set-up, something so basic like not having a ethernet port that comes on their consoles/the switch's dock by default, them just not "getting" why people ask for the features that they do for some of their games (being able to play smash ultimate online with at least 2 players on your switch in arenas so you can invite your other friends via online for example, the way super mario 3D world is setup in that only player 1 makes progress in their save file for playing online.....also, friend invites only, no public play options, etc. etc.), stuff like this is just.....nintendo being nintendo.
