Personally, the only time I would impose one culture's standard of what is considered normal food onto others is if making of the dish is damaging the environment aka shark fin soup. In all other scenarios, highlighting other culture's food as "weird" inhibits cultural understanding and only divides us all further apart. In other words, you might think you are making fun of just food, which is harmless, but once that is normalized, it is inevitable that people will escalate and move onto other parts of foreign culture they find "weird." China is literally flying fighter jets through Taiwan's airspace every day and has dropped all mention of the word "peaceful" in their talks about reunification.
